Dog Food Recalls - Dog Food Recall List

Words to know about the Pet Food Recall:

  • Wheat Gluten = The left over stuff when wheat flour is milled until the wheat starch is gone and only the wheat's gluten is left.
  • Rice Protein Concentrate = A cheap high-protein ingredient.
  • Melamine = A chemical used in fertilizers and plastics.
  • Cross-Contamination = Products which were contaminated have been put back into the rendering process to be used in additional pet foods.

What Wal-Mart is doing about the Pet Food Recall

(as reported by WSFA 12 News)

We introduced you to Sheri McComber Wednesday. She says four of her cats got sick after eating Special Kitty brand cat food. She checked the labels on the food and found they were listed on the product recall. She said, "This was done on purpose."

We found dozens of the pouches just like the one's McComber had at the Clanton Wal-Mart. At first glance, the product code checks out as safe. If you peel it off, you'll find another product code. I compared those numbers to the ones on the recall list on the FDA'S Web site. Sure enough, it's on the list. With the stickers over the product code, the items went through. However, I left one on the stickers off. When the cashier scanned the label on the package, it said do not sell and she would not let me purchase it.

We put in several calls to Menu Foods and Wal-Mart pressing the issue: Why would they cover the old labels with new ones? Wal-Mart issued statement. It reads: "We have worked with our supplier to investigate the concerns raised by WSFA 12 News. Menu Foods, the manufacturer of Special Kitty products, assures us that the products currently available in Wal-Mart stores are, indeed, safe."

During our phone conversation, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart says the problem is with the packaging, not the prouduct. As to the problem with the packaging, Wal-Mart said we would have to ask Menu Foods about that. So far, we have been unable to get a comment from Menu Foods. The question still remains why would it cover the original labels. You can count on WSFA 12 News to continue to follow this story until we get answers.

Have you purchased pet food from these companies? If you have, you may join in the class action, too. Were you "duped" by these companies?

Does this include dry food and Purina brands.

My Pug has been drinking more water than usual and urinating constantly. Could this be caused by the Ol'Roy wet dog food? He has vomited twice in the last few weeks but not in the last few days.

Richard  says:

Yeah all, I work for a corporate petstore and right now it only effects "some can" and "pouched" foods. don't worry about the dry which it what you should be feeding your animals anyway and not canned. After reading todays Orlando Sentinial it appears that the corn gluton meal that was used by one supplier was bad.

this is a reply to the following: Comment by Joan B. Hudson -- My Pug has been drinking more water than usual and urinating constantly. Could this be caused by the Ol'Roy wet dog food? He has vomited twice in the last few weeks but not in the last few days.

ANSWER: YES IT COULD. This is one of the symptoms that was listed on the Boston Channel 7 News. I'd bring your dog to the vet ASAP to make sure.

Fred Luhn  says:

My Rottie/Lab mix has been vomiting since eating from this latest bag of Beneful dog food. Is it possible that Beneful is affected too and just hasn't made "the list" yet? Any help would be great!

clackey  says:

This is for JOAN HUDSON. You probably should have your dog checked out by a veterinarian. Our Yorkie was experiencing the same symptoms and after having him tested we found out he was DIEBETIC.

DIANE  says:

MY DOG HAD A LOT OF VOMITING LAST WEEK. THE CANNED DOG FOOD HE EATS IS NOT ON THE AFFECTED LIST BUT THERE IS A QUESTION ABOUT BENEFUL WHICH HE ALSO EATS AND SINCE HE GOT SICK HE'S STAYING AWAY FROM. HE'S BEING TREATED AT THIS TIME. SINCE BENEFUL IS BEING QUESTIONED TOO I'VE REMOVED THAT FROM HIS DIET.

I JUST GOT MY DOG CODY, WHO IS A NORWEGIAN ELKHOUND. HE HAS BEEN EATING EAGLE PACK HOLISTIC SELECT SINCE HE WAS OLD ENOUGH TO EAT DRY FOOD, AND HIS PARENTS DID ALSO. IT IS A FANTASTIC FOOD, AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW SOFT AND SHINY HIS COAT WAS. IT'S A LITTLE PRICY, BUT WELL WORTH IT. EAGLE PACK IS NO WHERE ON THE RECALL LIST, SO IF YOUR PET IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CURRENT FOOD, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EAGLE PACK.

Please confirm that this recall does not affect Nutro Dry Food for sensitive stomachs - lamb and rice? The fact that they still haven't completed the recall list is so unsettling. I have pulled it from her diet already, but considering that this was supposed to be "one of the best", I don't know what to feed her now. I initially didn't trust any dog food until discovering Nutro ... now what?

Jessica  says:

Isn't this so ridiculous? When I adopted my puppy, I insisted on buying holistic, expensive food for her (since the main product in most grocery store brands is "chicken bi-product”: meaning ground up beaks and feet). Everyone said I was too overprotective. Now the grocery store brands are killing our pets. Consumers should demand that pet food manufacturers put decent ingredients into their foods.

wagjosh  says:

Until this is cleared up I will go back to good quality leftovers for my dogs, and also cooking for them with meat, rice, and vegetables. There are a lot of relatively inexpensive sorts of meat, which mixed with rice or other vegetables, is very nutritious for dogs. This will probably be somewhat more expensive than what I have been used to buying, but I think it will keep my dogs safe, and, chances are, they will like it more!

I just lost my loving Deana two weeks ago...I even said to my husband, can you imagine if had something to do with the cat food I was buying from Walmart???? This is crazy!! Now what??? What am I supposed to tell my daughter? Sorry hony, Deana died because I bought her the bad cat food! What are we supposed to do if are pet has already died??

Got2buzz  says:

I'm no DVM, but I'd BET they find the problem in DRY foods soon! It was mentioned that "corn glutton meal" COULD be the problem. It's basically in ALL forms of pet foods. My daughter's dog has all the symptoms-never had wet foods or "pouched foods.(?) I'd feed my pet cooked lean ground beef and rice for the next few weeks.

My heart is Breaking  says:

My family is so devasted. Our dog "Big Pup" became sick about 5 weeks ago. We took her to the vet and felt ashamed because we had tried A homepathic way to heal her. She came down very suddenly with vomiting and diaherra. I fixed her chicken and rice myself for a few days. She seemed to be improving. We decided to take her to the vet becaus she got sick after starting her back on her dog food. She smelled bad, even though we bathed her. This didn't help because she couldn't control her bowels. The vet put her on 2 meds and said "give her some good dog food". So i went and bought 40.00 worth of "The best".We cried all night Sunday waiting for our vet to open Monday morning. She is worse. I prayed, and cried and our vet was out today. So another day! Then I find out about the Dog Food recall. I am horrified because all her foods are on there. We have to see the vet when he opens at 7:30. I can't sleep because in my heart I know it is to late for her. Why is the FDA making so little of this? I have not seen them speak! My heart is broken, my family has had our special friend for 11 years and she was fine.....Just suddenly deathly ill. The vet thought it was Imflammatory bowel disease, that's what we treated her for. Tonight I got her to eat my chiken and rice. She lays on her todler bed with "Her 2 cats" who are now sick as well. I see there food is on the list too......Big Pup is a Flat Haired Retriver, there will never be another like her!Aren't any politicians having their hearts broken as well? Why doesn't someone SPEAK OUT? Scared and Sad in NC...

I am so afraid for my 2 dogs. I have not seen Ceaser Gourmet Food on the recall list. They ate that Fri. eve. Have they found if Beneful is safe or not. That is their main food. I wonder when someone is going to address our concerns. Do they not understand that our pets are members of our familys? They do when they are trying to sell their food.

Seems sometime that our harts are taken advantage of by corperate greed! Our pets are in manyways our childern and in some way we become closer to our pet then the people in our lives, these people should be held accountable and my hope is they are run out of the country on a rail and hopefully shot for what they have inflected on our friends! let none of us let them get away with this! eye for and eye I say!

if everyone would just stop feeding these horrible brands none of this would happen. i have been feeding my dogs Canidae for years now then one day we thought it was just getting too expensive so we switched a month later two of my dogs had such horrible ear infections that one of them almost had to have surgery to remove the ear drum. well i switched back to CANIDAE and they are 100% better. so think next time you buy the store bought foods. you would die if you knew what was in it. just go to canidae .com if you love your animals

Lee  says:

Luckily, I do not feed my pets anything on the recall list, but it is making me re-think about what I am feeding my dear ones. I have two indoor cats and a 8-month puppy. What kind of protein, fiber, etc should they be getting? Also, what ingredients should we steer clear of? I recently heard about Blue Buffalo, www.bluebuff.com, is this really superior to say, Purina?

nc  says:

Look up Premium pet foods online.. If you are on this website.. some are listed. get off the general store bought foods. Even without recalls, this stuff is killing your pets. Pet Supermarket has Wellness & Merrick - 2 good premium foods. Whole foods has several, including Wysong & Paul Newman's. If its not good enough for you to eat, its not good enough for you dog or cat if you love them. There are dozens of Premium Brands to choose from... and you won't find them @ Walmart.

we were feeding my dog wet eukanuba pouches mixed with dry up until january. he was constantly getting sick, vomitting, loose stool, and shaking his head (it seemed like his ears were bothering him). we kept switching the treats we would give him, the flavors of food, everything, accept the brand because we were told by our original vet that that was the best. we figured he had food allergies, which we still believe was probably the case. anyway our new vet recommended that we change to solid gold, holistique blendz. he's been fine ever since, and now i'm so glad we changed!

My cats eat Iams dry food-lamb and rice. Is it corn meal that's affected or just corn glutton meal? They've been on Iams since they were just kittens, so if there's anything I don't know already about the recall, it would be much aprectiated if I knew what to do with the food situation.

in response to #38, I wouldn't feed any animals any brand that is on the recall list, just because it might not be the exact food that is on the recall, they still make the food with the same ingredients. No dout that the dry food will be on the recall as well.

I think some dry purina food is also contaminated. My puppy started drinking a lot of water lately, ad this morning we found her to be dead, and we couldn't for the life of us find out what was wrong. I think it might be due to the contamination of the dog food.

My dog eats Innova or at times she will be switched to Solid Gold. I talked with the owner of Solid Gold and talked with other breeders that were feeding their dogs a higher quality of food. I have found that my early concern about what they put in dog food was not paranoia at all after all these pets have died. These two brands are completely safe to use and are a thousand times more healthy than Science Diet or any Purina Brand. My advice would be to buy pet food at a pet store and listen to people that raise pets (not vets or store clerks).

For comment #3 above. My dog did the same thing with attempting to urinate frequently even when none would come out and vomiting. She did this about 4 to 5 months ago, and I had given her some of the Nutro Natural Choice. She pulled out of it though. I wonder if it was the dog food at that time too. The vet put her on ID dog food which is prescription and she got better in three or four days. Wonder how long this has been going on with the dog food. I feel lucky.

Please note that Diamond Pet Foods are NOT involved in the Menu Foods Recall. The accurate list of pet foods involved is listed on the Menu Foods recall information site, and does not include Diamond:

betty  says:

Corn gluten seems to be in many pet foods. We need recipes for good homemade foods for our pets. I am horrified that Menu did not issue a warning earlier. They take our money, they better be sure the food is safe. Our pets are very important to us. This is a major tragedy. I feed Special Kitty dry and one of my cats has been acting very strange for a month now. They all drink a lot of water. I will be cooking for them until this fiasco is settled. I don't know why the Govt. is not involved in inspecting and setting standards for pet food. What would happen if a child got into some of the wet pet food (lets face some kids will put anything in their mouths as they are just kids!).

About two weeks ago my Bichon was urinating and drinking constantly. Lethargic and vomiting. He only eats Cesar pack os moist food. I wonder if the investigation is thouough enough since Cesar is not on the list. He also had elevated liver enzymes which is present in rat poisoning. I dont know what I should do, he is doing better but this all seems suspicious to me. Any answers?

Our cat had to be euthanized in Jan. due to acute renal failure. He NEVER ate wet food--only Hills' Prescription c/d. I contacted our state FDA office and they are testing the remaining food to try to determine if it is contaminated. I feel certain dry foods will soon be included. Please do not hesitate to contact your state FDA to get further testing done. All brands of dry food need to be tested as well.

I feed my 12 year old lab Beneful. She had what I believe was a stroke yesterday that lasted for 20 minutes. She kept falling and her front and hind legs were giving out. She came out of it, but in reading the symptoms online, a possible cause of strokes is rat poison. I read the Purina web site today and they said their products are NOT on the recall list. I hope this is true but still plan to throw out the food and cook her rice tonight.

I'm so glad our four cats didn't get any. I also fed him alpo like #78. The prime cuts in gravy. we still cry about him, knowing this could have been prevented.

We feed our german shepherd & toy shelti Pedigree dry dog food.

Our Shepherd has become increasingly sluggish in her movements, and less playful. I was beginning to wonder if she was depressed.

She has also been vomiting & drinking a lot of water.

She's been showing signs of back pain, too. If i try to pat her on her middle/lower back she sort of flinches away, like it would cause her pain. She was also limping around and having trouble with the stairs over the weekend.

A trip to the vet's in order, and we're taking our dogs off the Pedigree food, even if it's NOT on the recall list, something's definitely not right here. I suggest anyone feeding their dogs Pedigree, wet or dry, to do the same. (The dry has been recalled in Asia - http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0WDP/is )

Good luck everyone. :(

She has been moping around for the last few days, following me around the house like she is afraid to let me out of her sight, and eating poorly. She can't seem to get comfortable. Debra- After months of experimenting with food combinations, I have my pug on a mix of Cesar wet dog food and Purina Beneful Healthy Weight. Before we settled on this she'd been having consistancy problems and occasional vomiting (this was long before we learned of the recall) and she hasn't had any more of those problems.

As far as I've seen Cesar has not been anywhere near any of the lists. I'd only worry about the purina now that dry foods are starting to be kicked onto those very same listings. I've decided to take her off of the beneful and go to Petco tomorrow and talk to someone about a more organic food. They should know all the latest information on any foods being sold (I've heard Natural Balance to be highly recommended). If I'm not sold I'll be putting her on a "human food" diet for a while (rice, simple lean meats... nothing processed).Just remember. Don't panic and take advice from a professional vet into account before you make any major conclusions or decisions. And don't be afraid to get a second opinion--the food may not be the problem just as not everyone gets salmonella from licking a bowl of cake batter. I wouldn't want to assume that he's being poisoned when, really, he may have diabetes or something of the like.

I hope this helped...

For the past weeks, I have been reading and researching dog food. It disgusts me to find this tragic loss of our pets could have been avoided. It all comes down to corporate greed. Menu Foods knew of this problem weeks before the official recall was made. I have switched my 3 dogs to a food that contains no corn (diamond food recall) and no wheat (menu foods, del monte). I prefer to feed my 3 boys a combination of dry and canned foods. Sadly, I came to learn recently the canned food was made at one of the Menu Foods plants. How do I know there was no cross contamination????? For my own peace of mind and for the health and well being of my family members - I am now cooking for them.

My head is spinning from trying to keep up with what is and what isn't. I'm so very thankful that almost all the time I have cooked meat, rice and chopped veggies for my little Sheltie. But, I do buy dog treats and now I'm seeing that some of those are being recalled. I would take all the dog food on hand back to the store or stores but, you know what...I have bought too many different types of treats in too many different stores so, to be on the safe side I'm tossing them all in a plastic bag and dumping them into the garbage. I hope the plastic bad will keep wild amimals away from the food when it's picked up and taken to the dump. God help our little pets!

I have checked Pedigree dog food, both canned and dry, and haven't found anything wrong about the dog food sold in the USA. And their name isn't on the recalled brand of food, and they DON'T use the wheat glutein supplier that was used in the bad, recalled food. Although my dog hasn't shown any bad symptoms, I figured I'd check anyway and am happy that Pedigree canned and dry food isn't on the list.

My dog showing symptoms today..... not eating, lethargic, just laying around. Will continue to watch her for vomiting or other signs before taking her to the Vet. Don't want to panic yet, can't afford the expense, if it's a false alarm. She is fed Beneful Healthy Weight dry food and Mighty Dog Can (no pouch) Also gets treats daily, which are "Pet Pride" bacon style strips. None of these are suppose to be a recall........but I will only feed her a diet of rice, chicken and beef until all this is cleared-up, at this point "I trust no pet food" She is loved dearly

Our dog Polo is allergic all meats, wheat and most other grains as well and I am allergic to the garbage being used for fillers in some pet foods. Both our dogs now eat rice, eggs (cooked) with the shells for calcium and protien, a handful of broccoli and cauliflower along with a tablespoon of flax seed (omega 3) and cooked potatoes. They are thriving on it. For treats we put potatoes through a French fry cutter about 1 1/2 inches long and cook them in a microwave oven until they start to turn brown. They too are well recieved as treats. Polo weighs in at 150 lbs and shows no signs of the allergies that plagued him not too long ago. Every morning they get potato treats and a boiled egg, (with shell) because I cannot eat my breakfast in peace until they do. They also get vitamin E. Hope this helps some of you 'and' your irreplaceable pets find a better choice of food. Another added benifit, 'no' preservatives 'and' peace of mind!

We lost our beloved 7 year old Beagle "Molly" last week. Symptoms appeared two weeks before her death during our move to a new home. She was lethargic, had loss of appetite, slightly bloated stomach, and increased water drinking. Her main food was Pedigree canned food, chicken and rice was her favorite and we would mix it with extra chicken or hamburger. She also ate dry dog bones - either ol'roy, or milkbone. We took her to the vet and she had a host of problems! Shocking for our normally healthy dog. She had pancreatitis, high alkp, low red blood cells, low white blood cells, and low lymphocytes. We had more tests scheduled, but she went down so fast over the weekend, the vet said he couldn't save her and we had to say goodby so she wouldn't suffer any more. My heart is broken. She was so sweet and loving. I don't know if it was her food or not, but I am certainly suspicious. Our other beagle, Peaches is a picky eater and didn't eat the canned food, only the chicken or hamburger. She is fine and we only feed her home cooked food now. I miss Molly so much.

MY shepherd had many of the symptoms, drinking more and more and more, then the increase in urination, started peeing in the house, then # 2's in the house and passed away too fast. Pedigree dry dog food was main diet. I think of the supplement industry, which I know a little about - how many different manufacturers? - but essentially only 3 or 4 companies that supply to them. If it grows eat it, if it doesn't grow I wouldn't eat it and neither will my next dog.

It is a great way for people to vent their problems, tell their stories and even post pictures of their pets. The food companies are NOT taking any responsibilty for this horrific nightmare we are all going through and maybe this website can make a difference. They forget, pets are a part of are family too. She became ill Tues. Feb. 20th, and died Friday Feb. 23rd. Something got her. Her primary vet. told me she ate something wrong because she was vomiting, but was treating her for her scratching at her ear. She became lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink. I kept contacting our vet, she just kept changing things and said just wait and see. She had a bad seizure of Friday night in my arms, we rushed her to an emergency vet clinic where she later died. After this the food recall came out. We feel it may have been something she was eating but we will never know what happened or why.

Just about first of the year, we purchased a new bag, and another since then, that poor dog has been so sick with diaghrea and vomiting. He has had really foul gas. My dog has been eating mighty dog food for years. He has never been sick a day in his life. A month ago (right after the recall), he began drinking alot of water and having acccidents in the house, even in his sleep. Hearing of the recall I took him to the vet immediately where I was told he was in kidney failure (high Bun and creatine readings- also small traces of blood). We put him on a low protein diet and went back for more blood work 10 days later to see if the diet was helping. This time not only did the blood work come out with Kidney failure, but now he also has liver failure. Another week later more blood work and the liver readings are becoming even higher. He is currently being treated with low protein diet (which he hates) and liver pills. We have also ruled out all diseases (at least that the vet can think of to test for). I am being told that since he didn't show crystals in the urine that this isn't from the food and that there aren't any liver problems being reported along with kidney failure. I've been searching the internet and see a few people out there have pets showing the same or similary syptoms. Also the ASPCA web site is still advising they don't have a definate cause for the food tainting. My questions to anyone out there who's pet is going through this, did you urine alaysis show crystals and is anyone's pet also experiencing liver difficutlty along with the kidney failure. Best of luck to all the pet owners out there and my deepest sympathy to anyone who's lost a pet or going through this.

I hope that this awful tragedy with dog food will spur people into looking at holistic foods for their pets. A lot of people are uninformed about what to look for in the ingredients of what they are feeding their pets. A good protein source should be in the first few ingredients. Beneful sounds good on TV but corn is one of the first, if not the first ingredient on the list. I know several breeders, and everyone of them will tell you not to feed your dog Purina. Anything that you can buy at the grocery store or WalMart type stores is not going to be a quality dog food. Please check the Internet for Holistic foods and your local pet stores and ask questions. If you know good breeders, not backyard breeders, who only want to make a buck, but someone that does it for the love of the breed, ask these people , they are very knowledgable. Our pets are worth spending a little extra on. There life span is short enough the way it is, don't make it any shorter.

My Fiancee and I just lost our red rednosed female pit bull. We had her since she was four weeks, she was a recue. She grew up to be one of the smartest, happiest, ham of a dog. She could dive into the pool and climb out on the ladder. She went everywhere with my Fiancee. Last week she started throwing up and would not eat. It got worse, and she could not hold her urine. She went to the vets overnight, had an IV to replace her fluids, and started doing better. Unfortunately, we did not know that Old Roys canned food from WalMart was on the recall list. To help her eat, he gave her a can. She died, after one last chase after the garbage truck, her favorite. My fiancee is devastated. He lost his best buddy, and blames himself. We thought the stores had pulled everything recalled. The wicked list is growing.

You have to trust your instincts and your pet's. I bought 3 bags of dry food, mixed them together in a big can. One of them, the Purina, smelled real bad, and the other 3 dogs did not want to eat it. Now the smell is gone, it just probably got diluted by the other brands, but our other 3 dogs are very thirsty, and one is a little blouted, which I had thought was just a weight gain. So tonight, I am going to the store for brown rice, meats and vegetables, and will stay up late to cook. And I will keep on making them their food until this poisoned pet food is out of the food chain. I knew it would show up in dryfood, and it might even make its way into the human food chain, since it is in wheat. I wish I had trusted my instincts. Last Friday I bought canned food not on the list, but after we lost our dog, I returned it just two days later, to find it was not on the recall list. The dogs could have eaten it! So you all be careful, and good luck!

Given the lack of truth and Honesty, or lying to the American People by this Administration, I would encourage everyone to ask their Congressional Representatives to THOROUGHLY investigate this issue. It is likely the same contaminants have made their way into the feed of Pigs, Cow, Chicken and Farmed Fish. This is likely to be alot worse than what is being told via MAIN STREAM MEDIA. Dont take this warning wrong. We are talking about the integrity of OUR Food supply and the Health and Safety of Our Children and Ourselves.

I give her Beneful and until now I thought it was safe. Well ITS NOT.. her legs give out on her, drink a ton of water, gas, lethargic...I am freaking out after reading this about Beneful... She will be fed chicken and rice from now on... THis is horrible what we are all going through.. My heart and prayers go out to all that has lost their pets over this... WHat a sin....Not fair...

Last summer I noticed my Shi su was constantly urinating. At first I thought it was diabetis. Then I thought about a Dog Treat we had recently purchased. It was a Chicken Jerky. We stopped giving it to him and he stopped urinating. Now we switched to Benefil. At first he was very perky and now he is urinating and sleeping. Can you send me an updated list of the Pet Food recalled please.

Do not feed your dog Purina Beneful Healthy Weight. We have 2 Deer Chihuahuas and we feed them this food. Lately, our eldest (who is 2 years old and WAS completely healthy) has been panting a lot, has a fever, and his eyelids are more red. Purina Beneful contains soy, and corn gluten. Our research has shown that these ingredients could be contaminated. We just bought a brand new bag two days ago from WalMart. Also do not feed your animals PUPPERONI products. They contain wheat gluten.

Good advice, Vic and Monique!

The sick pets from this food are the very reason for the Class Action against Purina for the contents you mentioned as well as euthanized dogs and cats - listed as by-products on the label.

I had been giving these to my two dogs and they have been sick, I also have been feeding them the ol roy kibbles, bits & chews. I have included a link below to a website from the FDA with ol roy products. You can also check on other brands here. Tammy, I am a distributor for Flint River. www.frrco.com/122135. Flint River tests for Melamine every 15 minutes during processing...I was cooking for my dogs and cats during this recall when I found this pet food. I have 9 dogs and 16 cats. My pets have been eating it for almost 2 months now they love it and they are so healthy and vibrant. No chemicals, all human grade food, no rendering plant crap and all of the ingredients are made here in the US by USDA plants. Flint River certifications and inspections exceed the FDA requirements. I have sold this product to many large and small rescue agencies among other individuals and eveybody loves it. Please go the above the website and check it out for yourself I feel you will be satisfied. Flint River offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I will tell you that my English Setter doesn't have runny eyes anymore and he doesn't vomit undigested food like he used to. My shep mix used to cry when he stood from a sitting position, now he doesn't. One of my dogs used to shake for no reason occassionally, he doesn't shake anymore. All of their coats, eyes and gums look brighter and healthier than they every have. Even my feral rescue cats don't vomit anymore. I have done rescue work for over 30 years. I owned and operated my own animal shelter for most of my adult life with over 90 dogs and cats. I work closely with law enforcement and area animal shelters in rescuing, educating and volunteering for over 30 years now. I am vet tech by trade. I farm now, eating all organic and raising my own meat, grain, hay, wheat, oats, cattle, goats, dairy and chickens. We still rescue dogs, cats and horses. I have to honestly say that I have never been more impressed with any dog and cat food as I am Flint River, I wish they made large animal feed too! I am sure I can get you other testimonies if you need them. Feel free to email me at cbwdbs@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Hey, has anyone had problems with Purina Little Bites? We have two dogs; a Peke and a Schnauzer mix. The Schnauzer mix seems perfectly fine, but the Peke's been pooping in the house a lot lately, and the past three times, he's put out diarrhea. Now, he's kind of persnickety about mud, and it's been muddy, but he used to just poop on the patio; not in the house. I looked up the recall, and saw that diarrhea is a symptom of the pet food recall, as well as loss of continence. So, I ask you, do you think our little girlie-boy dog is just not wanting to get his fur wet, or is he sick? Also, has anyone had problems with Friskies, Purina Indoor Cat Chow, or 9 Lives? My cats are fine, but I'm scared. I'd feed them organic/homemade, but I'm too poor to feed them anything but store bought. (And the poor should be able to have to joys of pet parenthood too, shouldn't they?)

All of those foods you mentioned are not on the recall list but are included in a Class Action for the sickness and loss of pets.

Expensive food of quality (expensive doesn't always make it a better food as we've seen with Science Diet and others) costs more to purchase a single bag or can but you are money ahead when the container is empty. Simply, pets eat about 1/4 th of the quality food, have less fleas, and health problems.

Tammy I am so glad that your dog loves the Flint River.  If anybody wants free samples e mail me cbwdbs@yahoo.com or go directly to www.frrco.com/122135.  Proceeds from my distributorship go towards my animal rescue.  Please read my latest rescue story on Hubpages "Homeless, Lonely Stray Dogs"  Parts I and II.  The rescued dog, Zena will go to Purdue for an MRI to see why she can't walk.  The MRI will cost me a min of $1,000.  I have had this dog for 4 days now. Zena is such a sweet dog. She is now at least able to stand and wag her tail, but she can only take a few steps before needing to lay down again. X- rays show no broken bones. Thank you.

Tammy,

During National Pet Food Boycott week try not to purchase any commercial pet food. Also, don't stock up on pet food before the Boycott week. During this week make some homemade pet foods or feed baby food. When sales drop off for these companies they will have to take notice. These companies are going to offer discount coupons, release new pet foods, etc during this time. The pet food companies will do everything in their power to prevent people from Boycotting.

Most important! Tell everyone you know about the National Pet Food Boycott for the Week of June 17 through June 23rd!

This boycott is a good thing. In my opinion I don't know why anybody in their right mind would ever buy a commercial brand pet food again. Unless they take out the chemicals and preservatives and have everything meet the needed requirement standards...And let's face it that is a long time to come. There are too many good holistic/organic foods available that save in the long run on a healthier pet, less shedding, more energy, no tainted scares and less vet bills, less vet bill makes the holistic/organic foods less expensive in the long run. Bless the hearts of those that are trying to save thier pets with home cooked meals and holistic/organic food, now that's the way for all of us to learn. All of us have had a wake up call. Now it's time for all of us to make a difference. Boycotting for one week will make a dent but it will do little in the long run. The only alternative is to boycott commercial products until they change their ingredients and their standards. Just my opinion of course!

Sherry,

Have you looked into AAFCO ?  AAFCO are the people the pet food companies have to answer to about regulations, etc.  AAFCO has only one full time employee and that is the receptionist.  You should read about the AAFCO requirements of pet food.  There are suggestions but no actual compliance standards, etc.  It is a really sad deal.

Since AAFCO is the only support we pet owners have to certify our pet food is good when purchasing food through Wal-Mart or the local stores I would put my trust in a Company which has established it's own high standards and doesn't need a receptionist to set the mark.  Look for a company like Flint River and others which are proud of the foods they produce.

We have a 10 mo. old labrador who is on Life's Abundance as well as our other 18 mo. old labrador. We've been blessed to have no problems to this point because we've always had them on this food and they've been very healthy. However, 48 hours ago we had three separate training sessions with our youngest in which we used pieces of Pupperoni treats and Milk Bones and she's since become very ill. The first 24 hours she had unbelievable amounts of diarrhea, strange extreme salivation running from the sides of her mouth, lethargy, and would eat and drink very little. She was also very unusually skiddish, noise sensitive, and literally jumped at shadows -- very, very unlike her. We got her to eat some small portions of boiled rice and lean chicken after which she started drinking more. She's since regained her energy but the diarrhea returned after a 24 hour hiatus and has not stopped as she now loses control every 30 minutes or so (almost as if it was cyclical). Has anyone else seen any problem with these treats? They were recently purchased so I thought they would be okay after so much caution the companies had to take -- was I naive or is this unrelated? We're leaving for the vet in a few minutes but I want to be as informed as possible. No problem with our other dog who had only a bite of the treats (did not have the training sessions so did not have the large portions) and is 30 pounds larger). Please help. Any advice out there??
