Mercy...

I've had Mercy since she was born in April of 1999. Her momma was a sweet, golden mutt that showed up at my house, and the animal lover I am, I took her in. She had one brown eye and one blue eye. She was very sensitive and protective of my new born child. Several months later I noticed she was pregnant, and a few months later we had several little pups squeaking under the house. I crawled under the house and pulled all the puppies out, not one resembled their mother. They were all dark, but Mercy was the only one that resembled a husky. I knew she was a keeper. She was just adorable!!

Going for a ride

Mercy

Your mercy has comforted

Myself and my soul
A mate and a friend
I’ve watched you grow old
A woman’s best friend... who has laid by my side

Always happy to see me

Always wanting to ride
Never a friend will I remember like you

Your mercy has given me
A friend that is true

What a devil she can be
What a devil she can be
See how pretty I am
See how pretty I am
Me and my Mercy aka soul mate

Personality

Mercy has always been gentle and loving to humans and very protective of children. She is not so friendly to animals she does not know, especially when children are around. She was raised with her mother, another one of my dogs, and three of her siblings. They all ran wild in the country and carried a pack mentality. She feels as though she is the alpha bitch and in most cases she is. She is an expensive mutt. When she was 3 months old, she was hit buy a car, and I spent hundreds of dollars to keep her alive. She is now left with a bad hip and a right leg that won't bend, but it doesn't keep her from running in circles when she escapes out of the house. You see, because Mercy was raised in the country she does not understand being confined in a fence and will not "shit where she sleeps". I've witnessed this dog eat through wire fence to get out of a yard. I have also witnessed her eat a rabbit whole. I mean the entire rabbit in one swallow as my pet lab, my dad (a biologist) and I watched in amazement. I guess she wanted to show the younger lab that he wasn't getting any of that rabbit!! She's been in many dog fight's, mostly over territory and children. She's never lost one. She taught my pit bull how to fight. She uses these matrix-like moves to spin her body around.

She has a split personality like her momma (me), because when she gets mad enough to fight, she's a different dog. She doesn't just show her top teeth, she shows all her teeth. She rarely barks. She really doesn't bark at all unless she's REALLY excited. She mostly talks to you. It sounds like she's trying to say "I love you". I think she is. She's an old soul like her momma (me again), but she's got many dog years to go. She's also been around longer than any other dogs I've had. I now only have one other dog, a lab mix (another stray). Her mother and siblings and the other dogs I had all were either shot or ran over by cars even after each dog I'd owned had been put through surgery at least once. They all ended up dying or disappearing in the end except for Mercy...God bless Mercy.

Added about 10 months later

Mercy recently passed away during the night on December 14, 2010.  She was taken 3 hours away to be buried on family land.  I am still grieving over losing my best friend.  I recently got her name tattooed on the back of my neck.  I will always remember and miss my sweet Mercy. :(
