Ami looked surprised by Johnny's last statement. "What are you talking about? she asked...why would my grandfather add me to his will? I thought he despised my presence."

Johnny smiled and reached his hand out across the table to touch hers. Ami did not pull back, but welcomed his touch.

"The reason he was asking for you to join him in the study this morning? He was going to tell you. He didn't hate you Ami, he'd been through a lot of hurt in his life. First by his wife, not his ex-wife, then his daughter... your mother. The only one who gave him hope for the future...well, ran off! "

Ami cocked her head inquisitively. "What of my aunt? Why didn't you know of her existence? Or did you, and you just didn't share it with me?"

Johnny concentrated on his beer and chips. When he met Ami squarely in the eye he didn't smile. "Your grandfather didn't want you to know about her. She has... issues? Not unlike her mother. Does that surprise you?"

Ami shrugged. "Nothing seems to surprise me anymore! What else is coming my way I need to know about?" she smiled weakly.

Johnny cleared his throat, then leaned in towards her across the table. "Do you see that older couple sitting in the far corner not two tables away from us? They have been watching us since we arrived. I don't want to alarm you, but I think this is not the place to discuss any more impertinent information. Let's finish our lunch and we can head back to the manor for your things. From there, we can head out to my place, shall we?"

As Johnny finished speaking the woman got up and grabbed a guitar, then headed out the front door. The man remained at the table. Ami watched in amazement. Although the woman was obviously in her fiftees, she was tall, slim and trim. She was wearing a long white dress and a lot of makeup. She was apparently pretty in her youth. When Ami and Johnny got up to leave the pub, they could hear music coming from her guitar, just outside the pub door.

Ami smiled when Johnny played the gentleman and opened the pub door for her. The woman watched as they left, only to have Ami stare back at her over her shoulder. Something about the woman looked familiar. The lady in white smiled and began a ballad of sad, tragic melodies.

Johnny sped the car back to the manor, anxious to get the chore over with. He kept peering in his rear view mirror alerting Ami that they were being followed. He hissed: "Don't turn around, I don't want them to know we know. But, I think its that couple from the pub."

Ami felt frightened. Her nerves felt jumpy as she had so much already to deal with. "Oh please Johnny...go faster!"

Johnny stepped harder on the pedal as they flew over the back roads to the manor. No matter how he turned or what direction he went, they continued to follow.

"Here, take my phone and push the number 1. Its for emergencies, if we need it. It will contact the police directly. But, don't call it unless I direct you too, got it?"

Ami shook her head in acknowledgment. She had to mentally tell herself not to turn and look back at the car following them. She hoped it would drive on past when they entered the drive of the manor. She clutched the seat as they pulled into the long driveway, while holding her breath.

"Blast! They are still with us!" Johnny spat out. "Who do they think they are anyway?Stay in the car Ami.  I will deal with this!" he shut down the engine then flew out of the drivers seat to approach the car stopped several feet behind his.

Ami turned and watched.  Johnny was flailing his arms and calling back to them.  "What do you want, what is your business here?" he hollered at them.

The car inched forward and for a moment Ami thought they would run Johnny down. She held her breath, fearing the worst.  Instead a short man got out of the car and handed Johnny an official looking document.  Ami could not hear what was being said, although she strained to pick up their tone of voice.  When Johnny walked back to his car, the car turned around and left.  Johnny looked in through his open door and smiled.

"Sorry about that...it's an official document envolving your grandmother's rights. In the event of your grandfather's death!" he sighed, waving the envelope at her.  "Come on, lets get your things and get out of this creepy place, shall we?"
