"Is she coming around yet?" Ami heard Adam's voice talking somewhere nearby.
"Ami?" It was Sandy leaning over her just inches from her face. "I brought you an old friend. Are you okay?"
Ami sat up to find she was on a sofa. All four pair of eyes were looking at her anxiously. She spotted Spider in Adam's arms and reached out for him. When he was handed to her gently, Ami sobbed into his fur. It startled her friends as they looked on. Spider began to purr and rubed his soft face against hers, as if he understood her pain. 'I missed you too', it appeared he was trying to share with her.
Sandy smiled. "Come on Ami, you'll be okay now. I don't know why you passed out back there on the street, but you scared us all! I'm glad you seem to be okay now. It was like you'd seen a ghost or something."
Ami raised her eyes to meet her friends. They opened wide as she whispered: 'Johnny...it was Johnny!" she began to bawl again, mumbling so no one could make out what she was saying.
Sandy shooed the guys from the room, and sat down next to Ami, putting a comforting arm about her. "Are you sure it was him...the motorcyle guy who tried to run us down?" Sandy asked in a gentle voice. "Maybe its just you thought it was...from all the medicines you've been on, like a dillusion?"
Ami shook her head violently. Gasping as another sob escaped from her heart. "It was him...I'd know those eyes anywhere!"
Sandy rubbed her friends back gently for reassurance. "I'm so sorry Ami. Gees, you've been through enough already. You don't need anything else to add to it!"
Ami managed a smile, knowing her friends would be there for her. She placed her cat on her lap continuing to stroke its fur. It was so good to be home, despite the recent trauma of events.
Justin, one of Adam's friends, came rushing into the room holding a puppy. The sheep dog right beside him staring up anxiously at what the young man had in his arms. It was a cute Cocker Spaniel pup. It whimpered and reached its little tongue up to lick his face. "Look at what I found!" he exclaimed, smiling brightly.
"Where did you find him?" Adam asked, coming into view and stroking the puppy's head.
"Some guy gave him to me...said it was for Ami..."
The room fell silent. Everyones eyes fell upon Ami as she sat with a gaping mouth and stared at the darling puppy in surprise. "Johnny? How did...how did he...find me?"
"I think it was the same dude we chased out of the cafe awhile ago. This stalker sure is into you!" Justin remarked carelessly.
Sandy shot him a warning look and he shut up. Adam took the puppy from Justin to bring it over to Ami and smiled warmly down at her as he handed him to her. "It appears to be a male pup. Will you keep him?"
Spider sat up and sniffed the puppy, hissing as it jumped off Ami's lap. When the cat ran from the room, Midwicket followed, barking in hot pursuit. The room was suddenly full of chaos which carried out into other parts of the large house. The young men scrambled after the dog who was chasing the cat. It made Ami laugh. It was a nervous laugh, although she was not particularly worried about her cats safety. She heard the sheep dog yelp as they heard her cat snarl a warning. Her claws making contact with its nose. She smiled, as she was reassured Spider could take care of herself. The Sheep dog ran back into the room and nuzzled into Sandy's legs.
"Well, what did you expect Midwicket...chasing after a smart cat like that." she smiled, ruffling the dogs ears. Looking over at Ami with the puppy who wiggled its small tail and tried effortlessly to wash Ami's face as she held it from her.
"Now, I don't get it! Why would a man who took you all the way to England to meet unknown relatives, protect you there, follow you home and give you large sums of money....try to run you down? Then...on top of all that...give you such a darling puppy?" Sandy shook her head in bewilderment.
Ami smiled. "Because he loves me?" she said jokingly. The girls burst into laughter. They were quickly silenced as Adam reentered the room with Johnny not far behind. Adam's face told it all. He raised his eyebrows at the women on the sofa, pointing behind him in warning that only the girls could see.
Sandy stood up quickly, shocked to see him in her brother's living room. She was taken back with surprise as they all were. She started to speak when Johnny managed to first.
"I need to talk to Ami alone. Do you mind?" he looked at the others faces as his presence demanded attention. His voice was soft and low.
Ami found her heart beating violently in her chest as she sat the puppy down on the floor before her. Johnny came further into the room as the others left quietly, but hanging near by if they were needed.
"Why...why did you try to run me down awhile ago?" Ami asked bravely.
Johnny reached down for her hand, but Ami quickly pulled it away. "I need answers Johnny...fast! I have had my life threatened ...I don't know how many times now, since learning of my relatives in England. I deserve an answer before I am to die!"
Johnny studied her worried face, which looked quite beautiful despite all her pain and recent suffering. Her eyes were wild with fear and uncertainties.
"Can I sit next to you please? He picked up the puppy who was tugging playfully at his pant legs. When he sat down, he looked Ami straight in the eyes as he explained what he knew.
"I was sent to look for you, by your grandfather. He wanted to know you'd be taken care of. Your Momma, being his favorite. He knew you were in America, and had received a note from your Momma when she was dying. He knew from her your love of classic books. He recalled his daughter Elisha, twin to your Momma...was jealous of her sister. When your Momma ran away her life had been threatened too. We figure your aunt tried to do her in, learning of the baby and the man your Momma had fallen in love with. Yes, the playboy whom they found dead in an alley a while back. Your aunt has issues...but she was never placed in a facility. Your grandfather didn't believe in them. So, he had nurses and staff looking after her. Sometimes when she refused to take her medicine she would appear crazy and do harm to those around her and herself. That is why I believe your grandmother left. She never divorced your grandfather, so when she learned about you...she felt threatened of losing the estate. Her reasons for never divorcing your grandfather Shelton." Johnny took a deep breath as he continued.
"Ami, I think the man you thought was trying to run you down...was my brother. We look a lot alike, especially around the eyes. But, he is actually better looking." he smiled.
Ami looked surprised, reaching out to take Johnny's hand. Her heart beat slowed a spell, although to touch the man she was falling for...it made it continue to skip a beat. Relief flooded her senses as she hoped he was being truthful with her.
"Now, hold on...I have more to share you, you may not like..."

Well, Mit Kroy to get to the bread...you have to untie the twist tie on the bag. :) Thanks for keeping up with the story and your comments.
I'll go with that analogy used by Mit! Enjoying the story. :)
Thanks Jaspal, for also keeping with the story. Glad you seem to be continuing to enjoy it! :)

There are more turns to this story than a twist tie on a bread bag. Good so far.
