Solid Snake is gone. Long Live Solid Snake.

Wait... Solid Snake is gone??!?!!!1!!oneeleven

Cool your jets, kiddies.. Solid Snake is around for one last run of smokes, lasers, exclamation points and sneaking with new technology. Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots has been rumored to be the very last game of the series which will feature Solid Snake, much to the chagrin of fans everywhere. For those of us who have been playing this game series since it first came out, we've seen Solid Snake transform and be molded by time, popular culture, and increasing abilities on the part of game makers.

Guns of the Patriots takes us into yet another level of intrigue, action, stealth and danger, and guess what video game fans?

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is ONLY for the Playstation 3.

  • Cinematics: The Metal Gear series has always been known for amazing and dramatic cinematic scenes. MGS4 is going to excel in this area, as previews and spoilers have shown.
  • Gameplay: We all know that actual gameplay is going to be less awesome looking than the cinematics, so let's get that point out of the way right now. Nonetheless, the previews have shown that Metal Gear Solid 4 truly does outdo its predecessors.
  • Tech: Oh, my, God. Taking on camouflage, Snake's suit doesn't just wiggle out into obscurity, it actually replicates the patterns of whatever surface he's against.

Solid Snake, now declining into old age and complete with Sean Connery style facial hair and barely holding back his grey hair with his signature bandana thing, is called out for his last mission. It's time for him to kill Liquid Snake.

SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!!

Before I go any further, let me tell you that what I am about to type is still relatively in the "unproved rumors" section of my head. Until I play the game and see it myself, or catch cinematics from the game while at a store - this has yet to be truth.

It is said in nearly every current review I've read that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the last in the series, and for good reason. Word has it that Solid Snake is no more, as of the end of this game. Does that mean he dies? Does that mean he's disappeared and is going to live out his days by quitting smoking and taking up yoga instead of crouching in shadows and rolling around in his camo suit?

You just won't know until the game is out. How's that for a spoiler? LOL

Without spoiling any of it I thoroughly recommend anyone who has a PS3 and has played the previous game to ge tthis game, it's the best looking game I've ever seen (and I've played Crysis!)

Be warned, the long load times between scenes and an 8 minute install time initially then 3 mins when you start a new chapter or revisit a chapter sort of slow the action down.

If you're a MGS veteran like me you'll be glad to know this game is like MGS2 in that you could easily complete under 5 hours if you're into your speed runs!

adrain: this hub was written as a pre-release teaser for Metal Gear Solid 4. ;) I'll likely update it, but I've gotta play it first!
