Mexican Yam - Uses and Properties

Mexican yam has long had a reputation as a woman's herb.

During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries,

wild yam was used to treat menstrual pain and conditions

related to childbirth. Pregnant women used wild yam to

combat nausea, ease aching muscles, and prevent miscarriages.

Most of those uses were forgotten after Japanese

researchers in 1936 discovered that wild yam contained

diosgenin, a chemical that scientist Russell Marker used

in the 1940s to create synthetic progesterone and the

hormone DHEA.

Mexican Yam

(Dioscoreaceae family) contains alkaloids as well as

diosgenin and other saponins that may mimic the effects of

progesterone, DHEA, or other sex hormones. As a folk

medicine, this herb has been traditionally used for centuries

to reduce the symptoms of PMS and alleviate discomforts

associated with menopause. It is often taken to relieve

menstrual uterine cramps. When taken as a dietary

supplement to exercise regimens, its estrogenic effect on

mammary epithelium has been shown to reduce the effects of

fibroglandular tissue loss in the breast while increasing the

effect on the loss of adipose fat in the abdomen, hips and

thighs.

Recently, an all natural dietary supplement has been created

for women, with the use of Maxican Yam. Stemulite Define

Fitness Formula For Women, was especially designed for

females.

The Mexican Yam component targets adipose tissue

reduction around the tummy, thighs, backside, and waist,

while protecting any loss of fat from the breast tissue.
