Mexico City Holes In the Ground Soon Scraping the Sky

Construction Holes Filled with Skyscrapers!
Even when people say that there is no money, seems like there is lots of building happening in Mexico City. Along just the Zona Rosa, there are 5 big empty holes, at least one block square, that will be soon filled with skyscrapers of businesses, banks, hotels, shopping centers and apartments. The Zona Rosa itself is getting a new look to try to clean up its fading glory, complete with new paving on the walking streets, new sidewalk cafes, and a night life that just won't quit.
One great example, Reforma 222, a new giant shopping mall comes with two Japanese restaurants, two Starbucks, other fine coffee shops, two Sanborn's, a Lebanese and a Chinese fast food, a fancy tequila, McDonald's, Dominos, Burger King, and other wonderful Mexican restaurants. 8 movie theaters, and lots of expensive shopping. It even has a walk in dental clinic! In front of the building is a beautiful sculpture by the over 90 yr. old Leonora Carrington, and a wonderful bench on Reforma Avenue designed by her, too
There is a new St. Regis being built at the Diana, and there is a new HSBC skyscraper right at the Angel of Independence, with a new structure being built right across the square (circle), too.
Incredible to see the growth just in the downtown... Even more building and growth out in the Santa Fe area. Right now the buildings still don't have a full list of tenants and there are many open offices and apartments, ready for occupants. (Hope it doesn't turn out like in China where there are many empty new beautiful buildings... and they continue to be empty.) If you build it, will they come? Time will tell.
No longer does Mexico City look like a city from Colonial Spain. Of course, you can still find those wonderful 400+ year old buildings in the Historical Center of the City. And now the city is modernizing itself from the below the ground... up! It is beginning to look more and more like a modern world class international business and tourist destination.
