With the recent release of the 25th Anniversary of Michael Jackson's Thriller it came to mind that this artist cannot really be hated completely. Even though over the years he has done, or atleast been alleged to have done, many things which we as the public do not approve of, its kind of hard to really hate the man. As an artist we are all still his fans. Is wrong of us as a public to still support a "man" who has been said to commit many mind boggling things, from child molestation to endangering the welfare of his "own" kids? As a moral person, its wrong to support such a person if he did commit these things. But I can never judge his music for those things he has commited in his personal life.

Just this morning, I found myself once again loving his lyrics and tunes, replaying my childhood in my mind when I was a hardcore MJ fan. Replaying those moments in my mind just brought a smile upon me, and as I write this I have his song "Beat It" palying over and over in my mind. I have to say the 80's were great times, the little I remember of it, and Michael Jackson was the true King of Pop; and in my opinion is still is.
Has Michael's popularity gone done in the past 2 decades? There is no doubt about that, but he is still one of the best if not the best Pop artist of our time. Can we still support him? On a personal level, my answer is no, but on an artistic level, I would most definitely and I do support his music. Why you might ask? Becuase his lyrics and tunes have inspired many of us on a daily basis. From the common Joe to one of the most famous Hip-Hop artists Jay-Z; MJ has inspired us all in one way or another. He revolutionized music setting standards and touching people's hearts. I've never been to one of his concerts, but do remember the clips of all his fans, jam packing stadium, concert halls, etc. and basically throwing themselves at Michael, some of them even passed out of the thrill. When have we seen this happen in the past decade with our current artists? Very rarely I believe, unless they are 80's artists with a wide fan base.
I have to say that very little artists have accomplished what MJ has done throughout his long lasting career. Winning a record shattering number of awards, as well as having record shattering sales of all his album, which include Thriller which has sold over 27 million copies since its release. What kind of artist has ever or will ever do that again? Well I dont know but there is only one thing we are certain of, there will only be one Michael Jackson.

I agree 100%, his music is classic and his talent is rare. I cannot hate him despite what he's been accused of because of his awful childhood... His father messed him up very badly--he's had a sad existence for the most part, I just feel sorry for him now.
As a DJ, I got the remixed versions for this reissue released edition and boy are they garbage compared to the originaltracks that MJ and Quincy Jones laid down. Kanye remixes 'Billie Jean' and it's worth listening to once, maybe twice compared to 27M copies. Will.I.am does 'P.Y.T. aka Pretty Young Thing' over again which is really creepy if you think about it. The only track I heard that was even close to interesting was by Akon, who I normally can't stand. He turned 'Wanna be startin somethin' into a piano ballad a la R. Kelly and it doesn't suck.
Like I always say, if you're gonna do a cover, you have to bring something new to the table so that the listener can discern your interpretation.
p.s. It's still pares in comparison to the original by A LOT!
as far the morality of it all, you are on the right track. separate the artist from the man. there's a great debate about this subject in the Woody Allen film, "Bullets Over Broadway" and the famous line is...
"You can love a man even if he isn't a real artist, but you can't love an artist who isn't a real man." and i think that hits it right on the head. Love the artist's work but not the man.
As far as feeling sorry for him b/c of his dad, no way. He has so much $$$ that he could get the best treatments and surround himself with the right people and change if he wanted too. He isolated himself from everyone in the world except Bubbles the monkey and his servants so nobody could say no to him. Nobody could tell him that sleeping with kids is wrong. If they did, they'd get shunned.
He is supposedly touring with his brothers one last time as the J5. I'll believe it when I see it.

MJ's music is classic, MJ's personal Life has been tragic. Lets face it, he has to cover himself from the sunlight. He's definately a moonwalker. :)
