Michael Jackson Bad World Tour Official DVD Release
66Fame
The Bad World Tour was the first concert tour by Michael Jackson as a solo artist & to this day remains one of the most successful concert tours of all time. The tour included a total of 123 concerts in 15 different countries, beginning on September 12, 1987 and finishing on January 27, 1989. The tour was played to an audience of over 4 million people, which was a record at the time.
The tour was when Michael Jackson was in his prime. He was by far the most famous person on the planet, had an army of fans worldwide, and boasted the most successful album of all time in 'Thriller'. So the question I ask is, 'Why no DVD release of this once in a life time spectacle?'.
Success
To many of his fans (including me) seeing the King Of Pop in his prime (albeit on DVD) is something that cannot be ignored. There are currently various videos of 'Bad' concerts on the internet and a full length concert along with CD audio from Yokohama has recently surfaced (both of which are of medium to high quality) but neither are official releases.
There was heavy interest in the release of a Wembley concert dating from July 14 due to the fact it had been photographed and filmed extensivley by Jackson's crew. In fact many snippets from this show appear in the 'Brace Yourself' video which featured on the Dangerous Short Films DVD and the Dangerous World Tour before Jackson came on stage.
Anything ever released by Michael Jackson has been a success. Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Blood On The Dance Floor, Invincible & a DVD of the Dangerous World Tour - 'Live In Bucharest', speak for themselves, so it just baffles me why there is yet to be a DVD of the most successful tour in music history. The recently scheduled 'This Is It' tour and movie proves how popular Michael Jackson remains. In only a week the This Is It The Movie grossed over $144 million - a record for a documentary concert film (and something that will most probably never be beaten).
All of Michael's tours have been special and spectacular in certain ways. Both the Dangerous & HIStory tours were massive successes and the 30th Anniversary Special in Madison Square Garden will always be remembered for the reunion of The Jacksons. I also have no doubt that the planned This Is It shows would have been a massive hit & probably turned into a full scale world tour. The movie adds weight to this theory.
For me though, the way to remember, enjoy & love Michael Jackson is the Bad World Tour. Such a tour today would never happen, so the chance to see something that will never happen again makes a release even more appealing.
To Date there have been several online petitions created for the release of a professionally filmed concert from the Bad World Tour, none of which has had much success.
