Growing up with Michael Jackson's Music

I cannot fathom the fact that Michael Jackson is gone. Myself like so many people around the world were in awe of the talent that he possessed from the day that he along with his brothers, The Jackson Five took the stage. Michael Jackson's accomplishments in music, dance, songwriting, actor and other noble fetes speak for themselves. It is a struggle right now to write this Hub because my mind is a mass of sadness and sorrow for a life taken too soon.

I know we cannot live forever, but this is not right, not fair. He was about to start out on a fifty concert tour on July 13, 2009 in Europe. I grew up listening, dancing and partying to Michael Jackson both as a part of the Jackson Five, and as a solo artist. I consider him at the top, if not the top artist of all time. His influence of artists of some many genre's around the world is a testament to that.

Michael Jackson was a very sweet and sensitive man and I hope he will be remembered for all the contributions he made to the music world. Moreover he was a philanthropist and raised money for many charities around the world. Michael loved life and family, contrary to what was reported in the press many times. He was, even though having to grow up under a spotlight, a professional who put his heart and soul in all of his work and that in which he collaborated on with others. He was the best!

Michael Jackson...Rest In peace. He was and will always be remembered as one of the most iconic and influential artist of all times. He will be missed. It's a sad day. June 25, 2009

This is one of those times when I am proud to be part of the NYC crowd. The Apollo (and there is only one Apollo) Uptown in Harlem put his name up on the marquee earlier today (Thursday) with his date of birth and death - and NYers took to 125th Street by the thousands and...they moonwalked...and danced...and sang his songs - what a tribute!

Thanks for your tribute too!

May Michael Jackson's spirit shine on. I also loved his music and found him to be a very loving man even when the media was knocking him down.

BKCreative: Wow....I am touched to hear that my beloved NY paid him this tribute!

Thanks for mentioning all of the albums and songs that you included in your Hub. I thought Thriller was innovative and enjoyed the fact that the title song was used as a winning number one season on Dancing with the Stars.

Thanks Laringo for this outlet. I think the arts are humanity's way of reaching into and exposing our souls to allow our passions freedom. The bigger the artist, the deeper we are reached into. Michael's death so soon, like Diana's in '97, shocks humanity, shakes us to our cores where we join together at such vulnerable levels to share and lean on one another. It is an amazing thing and I'm absolutely sure the being, the spirit that was Michael is watching and is in JOY to see humans from all walks of life, all places around the globe, all colors and beliefs joining together to remember his gifts, his own vulnerabilities and trials and of course his incredible passion for singing to the world. I'm with you Laringo in sadness. I feel if he passed away at age 88 the effect could not be as stimulating on a global level as we are all witnessing today. There's a grander plan behind this quick departure than meets the eye...

Once again fellow Hubbers, Patty, Cathy, bluebird and all others previous comments, I appreciate you coming and sharing your thoughts and emotions. I felt so compelled to put my words down because I just couldn't settle down yesterday. It was and still is quite emotional to think that Michael is gone. Even though this Hub is really not a long and detailed story of Michael's life, for those who loved him, his music has and will continue to speak for itself.

Beautiful Hub. It has not hit me yet that he is really gone. Reminder of how I need to live each day to my fullest. Be kind, memember that love never fails, help others, give to the poor, give a hug, give a smile. Be a server and not a taker. Michael helped many causes. I beleve he is in Heaven with Our Lord, no tears, no suffering, no struggles or pain. He is lucky but will be missed by billions. Talk about imaking an impact on this world. I am grateful I never judged him as he had some things going on. ( We all do) I am  not perfect but am grateful I loved him for him. I grieve for his loved ones and beloved fans. He was an amazxing artist. He will rock on.

Thank you for visiting my hubs and joining I hope you are blessed with the tips.

I know Michael had a big heart and love and devotion for those less fortunate. It is always easy for people to criticize and demonize those they don't know. This behaviour is never right. Unless you trully know a person then one should not judge. We are all God's children here on heart to live our best life. That's what Michael Jackson did, despite the obstacles he had bear.

popintervention, it is indeed very hard and such a tragedy at such a young age. I saw many concerts and Motown Tours in my life but never had a chance to see Michael. I am sad for that. It would have been an honor. My memories of him will now live on in his music and videos.

Laringo, I know it's tough. It's tough to mourn, too, when his music gets you so amped! I just wrote a hub about it after going through the ups and downs of trying to grieve, but being too happy whenever his music's playing. I never got to see in concert either. He was one of my three I wanted to see. Saw Prince, and saw George Michael. Michael Jackson, robbed me! LOL

Hi popintervention, I've been watching his videos all weekend on every channel, switching back and forth. It's such a good feeling to see and hear his music. A big part of getting over the shock and part of the healing process.

no body, he was indeed the best performer in my opinion. He grew up before our eyes and never had a normal childhood. Some can handle this and some can't. All in all he left a legacy of great music and memories. He won't be forgotten.

The only thing about Micheal was the (in my opinion) gross distortions that he had surgically done to his handsome African features. If my son were to want to transform himself away from his God given African features or my daughter were to say that she had to get rid of this nose or this chin or lip or whatever I would have to seriously tie them down and have a talk with them. My children are such beautiful people and I want them to see what God created was beautiful. In fact I'm a bit jealous of them and really wish I was blood so I could have some of those genes in me. But alas I am but a white guy and an average one at that. I know, I know, my wife thinks I got it and all that but confidentially just between you and me - I think she needs glasses. Hey don't tell her I said that or she'll smack me in my bald head!

It was almost like a family member had died. I use to love to buy all those tabloid magazines. I haven't bought one since he died. I dont even look at the ones that have his picture on the cover. I just don't want to read any lies about him anymore. The television has told and shown me everything I needed to know.

I just got out of This is It! and boy was it AMAZING! It, unfortunatly, will be the closest thing I will ever get to a Michael Jackson concert, but it is worth it.

I remember going into work that evening and telling my co-workers that Farrah Fawcett had died; I figuared that would be the only big news story that would have happened for the day; boy was I wrong! My GM came round the corner where I was washing some of the dishes and she said that Michael Jackson had died; I don't know why, but I thought that she had been kidding and just making fun of me, since I came in earlier, saying that Farrah had died. However, I asked another co-worker and she said the same thing, that it had been on CNN. The rest of the night, I kept saying aloud that it isn't true, it isn't true, how could it happen? When I got home, there it was, on the news, MTV, E!, etc. I about fell over.

At this point, I can accept that he isn't here, too a degree, but when you've grown up with Michael Jackson, his persona, his everything, it's hard to believe that he is gone. Just like The Beatles, he'll be around for a LONG time.

Hello and thanks for your heartfelt comments. It's so sad how is life ended because he wasn't ready to go. I never saw him live and I regret that. I hope I can still get tickets to "This is it" because all I've heard is rave reviews. I must experience this movie with others in a theater because it will be the closes thing to being a one of his concerts.
