Michael Jackson Memorialized on the Moon

The Lunar Republic Society announced that a crater on earth's Moon will be renamed "Michael Joseph Jackson" in honor of the deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The musician was apparently into buying land on the moon. The crater is situated in the Moon’s Lake of Dreams, a short distance from a 1,200-acre parcel already owned by Jackson, purchased at approximately $27.40 an acre. He purchased his moon estates at a 20% discount. The Lunar Republic stated that he was one of the largest owners of moon property claims.

Naming a crater after someone is a serious and rare honor for the Lunar Republic, whose mission is to promote development, exploration, and settlement of the moon. They use the proceeds from people who buy land on the moon to fund research, and fulfill their goal of inhabiting the moon by 2015. Others besides Michael Jackson to receive this honor in the last 100 years are Leonardo da Vinci, Christopher Columbus, Sir Isaac Newton, Julius Caesar and Jules Verne.

Michael Jackson purchased his moon property near the Lake of Dreams in 2005, and then picked up acreage in the Sea of Vapors. Michael Jackson held a special admiration for the moon, for which he named his famous Moonwalk. Additionally, the moon is featured in the seal on Neverland Ranch. On the seal, a child sits, cradled in the moon, much like the imagery Brooke Shields used to describe and angelic Michael at his memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Lunar Republic Society further cited that the artist had recorded an unreleased Song entitled, “Sacred of the Moon.”

Jackson's Fascination With Space

As one might recall, Michael Jackson held a special interest in space. In fact, he’d once shot like a rocket over a concert in a moon suit, and he loved Steven Spielberg’s E.T.  Michael Luckman, authored a book entitled, “Alien Rock: The Rock 'n' Roll Extraterrestrial Connection,” which details rock stars who claim to have seen, communed with, or been inspired by extraterrestrials. Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley each have their own chapter in this book, which claims that Michael Jackson believed he saw an alien craft while on a plane, and he’d expressed his desire to moonwalk on the moon.

Crater Michael Joe Jackson is apparently visible from earth with the use of a standard telescope. It’s too bad that Michael couldn’t travel to the moon or be buried there. Perhaps then, he could have gotten the peace that escaped him on earth.

Although we don't really know why they want to do so, but is a great lost on the died of Michael Jackson.

It was a bit weird to buy a piece of land on the moon. Who owns it anyway?

I don't know. I think it's virtual property. I'm not sure what real value it holds.
