The Michael Jordan Biography

Thank You for coming to my Michael Jordan Biography Website

You have come to the Michael Jordan biography website. In my opinion, Jordan is the greatest NBA player ever and in this Michael Jordan biography I will tell you why. Even though there are great players in the NBA right now like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade, I will tell you why MJ is still a notch above them.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born February 17th 1963 in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina when he was still a baby.  When Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, he was involved in basketball, baseball, and football.  As you guys probably know from watching Michael Jordan biography videos, he was infamously cut when he tried out for his high school varsity basketball as a sophomore because he was considered “too short”.  This was all the motivation he needed to become the greatest player in NBA history.

Michael Jordan in High School

During the following summer he grew four inches to become 6’3” and trained extremely hard to make sure he would make the senior squad his junior year.  In the Michael Jordan biography video “Michael Jordan’s Playground”  he explains this period of time in more detail.  As a senior, he was selected to the McDonald’s All-American Team after averaging a triple double.  In 1981 Michael Jordan attended the University of North Carolina, where he famously made the game winning basket against Georgetown in the 1982 NCAA Championship game.  In many Michael Jordan biography videos he explains that this was the major turning point of his career as he became known as one of the most clutch players in NBA history.

Early Years of MJ

In the 1984 NBA draft,  Michael Jordan was chosen 3rd by the Chicago Bulls behind Hakeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie.   In his rookie year with the Chicago Bulls, MJ won rookie of the year honors after averaging 28.2 ppg on over 50% shooting.  The Chicago Bulls unfortunately lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.  In his sophomore season he missed 64 games because of a broken foot but returned in time to play in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics.  In many Michael Jordan biography videos, there are highlights of his memorable performance he had in Boson Garden in game 2 against the Celtics when he scored 63 points to set an all-time NBA playoff record for most points in a single game which still stands today.   Unfortunately the Bulls were swept in the series in 4 games and the Celtics went on to win the NBA championship.

Jordan Goes Off Against the Celtics in the Playoffs!

During the next four seasons, Michael Jordan and the Bulls continued to improve as Jordan won a MVP award, defensive player of the year award and young rising stars such as Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant started to show promise.  Unfortunately, the Bulls lost to the Pistons 3 straight years in the playoffs from 1988-1990 because of their physical play which gave Jordan fits during that time, as explained in the Michael Jordan biography video “Michael Jordan’s Playground”.

The 1990-1991 season was the first championship winning season for Michael Jordan.  He also won his second MVP honors.  In the playoffs the Bulls were able to get a measure of revenge as they swept the Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals.  The final game of the series is known for Isaiah Thomas and his teammates leaving the court without shaking hands of any of the Chicago Bulls players.  The Bulls then went on to beat the Lakers in 5 games as Jordan picked up Finals MVP Honors, the first of six which he would be awarded.   The Bulls then went on to win the next two championships, completing their first 3-peat and Jordan picking up two more NBA Finals MVP awards along with a third regular season MVP award to solidify himself as the best player in the NBA.  In the Michael Jordan biography “For the Love of the Game”, Jordan talks about how he planned for retirement as early as the 1992 Summer Olympics due to exhaustion and his superstar celebrity status.  The death of his father in 1993 further cemented his decision as he announced his retirement on October 6th, 1993.

Michael Jordan Announces His First Retirement

What happened next further shocked the world as Jordan signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox.  He had a brief stint with the Birmingham Barons, and there were even rumors that pitchers from the opposing team would sometimes take it easy on Jordan because of who he was.  After being away from basketball for a year and a half, Jordan shocked the world as he announced his return to the NBA with the two words “I’m Back”.  As the Michael Jordan biography in basketball would continue, Jordan would play well in his return as he would hit a game winning jumper against the Atlanta Hawks in his fourth game back and also score 55 points against the New York Knicks.  The Bulls ultimately made it to the second round of the playoffs, where they lost to Shaquille O’neal and the Orlando Magic in 6 games

In the 1995-1996 season, Michael Jordan and the Bulls would dominate the entire league by winning 72 games to only 10 losses to set the best single season record in the NBA still unbroken today.  Jordan would lead the league in scoring at over 30 ppg and win the regular season MVP award for the fourth time.  To cap  off  the season, the Bulls defeated the Seattle Sonics 4-2 with Jordan winning MVP Honors for the fourth time, setting the all time record.  In the next chapter of the Michael Jordan Biography, the Bull’s 1996-1997 season was yet another fantastic year.  Almost capturing 70 wins again, they finished 69-13, good for the #1 seed in the entire league.  The Bulls would face the tough Karl Malone led Utah Jazz and prevail, 4 games to 2.  Of course, Jordan racks up another Finals MVP to equal 5, 2 more than Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, and Magic Johnson.

This Michael Jordan biography continues with Jordan’s final season as a Chicago Bull.  With the Bulls finishing at 62-20, good for the best in the East, Jordan and the Bulls would advance to the finals after defeating a tough Indiana Pacers team in 7 games.  Jordan, seeking for his 6th NBA title, all with the Bulls, won a dogfight against the Utah Jazz yet again, 4 games to 2.  Game 6 in the series would be memorable for Jordan’s clutch performance as he rallied the Bulls to a 87-86 victory, hitting a game winning shot against Bryan Russell, though many consider Jordan got away with a push before he took the shot.  This would be good for Jordan’s sixth and last Finals MVP Award.  In this final chapter of my Michael Jordan biography, Jordan decides that he is ready to retire following the 1998 season.  The Bulls actually go through a rebuilding phase with key players such as Scottie Pippen and Dennis Redman departing along with long tenured head coach Phil Jackson.  Jordan would become President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards then would actually make his comeback as a player in the 2001-2002 season.  Although not as dominant as he was once, he would finish the season averaging 23 points and 5 assists per.  In Jordan’s absolute final season as an NBA player, he would play 82 games and average 20 per contest along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  Receiving standing ovations all year long because of the speculation of his final season, number 23 would finish his NBA career a against the Philadelphia 76ers, leaving to an ovation of 20,000 plus fans at the First Union Center.

I end this long Michael Jordan biography by saying that Jordan’s accomplishments are second to none, 6 championship rings, 6 Finals MVPs, 5 MVPs, 10 time regular season scoring champ, and 9 first all-defensive teams, making him a prodigy who made an everlasting impact on the NBA, influencing a whole crop of newer players such as Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and Vince Carter.  Jordan’s legacy still lives on and he is my favorite athlete of all time.
