For Little Culinary Fires

You may not be one of those chefs who want to set the world on fire with the majesty of your culinary creations, but that little flame you secretly covet can now be all yours (in several colors too). The six-inch micro torch uses standard butane fuel and can sustain temperatures from 390-840 Fahrenheit. It can hold up to 64 ml of butane and you can count on 60 to 70 minutes of burning time, which is surely more than sufficient to incur significant damage to almost any culinary creation that comes to mind. The micro torch works well for making crème brulées, glazing tarts, browning meringues (the cake not the dance) and melting cheese.

The micro torch comes equipped with a burner, an air adjustment ring, a gas adjustment dial, an ignition button, a safety switch, a gas valve and a continuous flame button. Its compact palm size makes it ideal for tool kits, should you want to take your act on the road. The pinpoint flame is perfect for other things as well including soldering, desoldering, heat shrinking and many other applications you can try if you can’t use it for your culinary escapades. The micro torch is built to last and runs about $30.00.

Reviews extol the safety and durability of the micro torch. For the more adventurous among us, it is a must-have tool for your kitchen. For the less audacious, it might be best to leave well enough alone. Carrying torches are great ideas for songs, revenge stories and even lighting the way along dark and deserted pathways. Still, one ought to be careful, because as Smoky the Bear used to say, the fire you start may well be your own (or something like that).
