If you are considering a rather invasive treatment to achieve healthier skin on the face, you should seriously considering giving microdermabrasion treatments a chance first. While these procedures can be extremely effective at reducing the prominence of acne scars, wrinkles, age spots, and a variety of other common signs of aging, it remains a fast and safe alternative to the more dangerous procedures.

Dermabrasion is a rather invasive, risky treatment that is often used for people who have a serious issue with scarring or sun damage. The microdermabrasion procedure was developed as a safer alternative for those who do not want to go through something that invasive or who have more minor concerns. With a wand in hand, a skilled professional can spray tiny micro crystals across the surface of the skin, essentially stripping away the outer layer of dead skin cells.

What's Involved with Microdermabrasion

There is little to no discomfort or pain involved here and you can walk right out of the office when it is done and go on with the rest of your day. Some people may experience minor skin irritation, but other than that there are no side effects to worry about. You can expect a treatment to last around a half hour, potentially a little longer.

There will be very little sign that you have done something to your face. It may appear a little pink, but most people have no issues going back to work, home, or wherever they need to be for the rest of that day.

In order to allow the process to really strip away all of the dead skin cells and reduce the scarring and signs of aging to the highest extent, expect to go in for regularly scheduled procedures over a period of time. A minimum of five procedures about two weeks apart will usually be recommended, though some people may need more.

Microdermabrasion treatments are a great alternative for those who do not want to go under the knife to look younger. Anyone who has negative reactions to chemical based facial products will find this a desirable alternative as well. The spray of fine crystals is very safe and the worst you could experience would be some irritation in the skin for a short period of time.

The results are really nothing short of amazing. Microdermabrasion procedures have been well recieved by the medical community and its beneficiaries alike. The before and after below may be an ideal example, but similar results are not at all out of the ordinary.

How Much Does it Cost?

Okay, now for the big question that most people come to after hearing all the great benefits and low risks of microdermabrasion treatments: how much will a series of these treatments cost? This is something that only a skilled professional can answer after looking over your skin and determining how much you will need. Of course, there are a variety of other factors that ultimately determine the price. Everything down to the state you live in can determine how much you end up paying.

You can expect to pay anywhere from a $100 for a basic treatment at the spa to $500-$1000 for several sessions with your dermatologist. The treatments with your dermatologist come with a significant advantage, as you are under skilled medical care. You'll get the most impressive results since you'll be able to get the best treatment from top of the line personal and equipment. This will commonly involve a number of visits over several months. Professional executed microdermabrasion procedures may seem pricey, but it sure beats cosmetic surgery prices.

Microdermabrasion treatments are one of the best ways to combat all of the signs of time and aging that attack your skin every day. From wrinkles to crow's feet and acne scarring, this is a safe, fast procedure that will leave you with a glowing, healthy appearance in the face.
