Microdermabrasion Cream
63Microdermabrasion is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure used to remove dead skin and embedded debris from the surface of the skin. It is most often performed by aestheticians in beauty spas as well as medical spas and doctor's offices. Microderm treatment is performed without anesthesia and is generally not painful. There are a number of methods currently in use. Recently, through the use of microdermabrasion cream, the procedure has been approved for home use as part of a personal skin care regimen. Microdermabrasion creams can be used to safely remove sun-damages skin, lessen dark spots and raised scar tissue and even, with repeated use, treat the affects of acne. Home microderm treatment, with microdermabrasion cream, can be an effective alternative to the more costly salon procedures while producing similar results.
How Microdermabrasion Cream Works
In addition to skin conditioners and other re-hydrating ingredients, Microdermabrasion cream contains tiny micro-crystals – the same ones used by dermatologists and aestheticians – which have been designed to literally "polish" the surface of the skin while removing damaged tissue and debris. The effect of microdermabrasion is similar to traditional exfoliation but leaves the skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Microdermabrasion cream can be safely applied to the face, neck and hands. Rubbing the cream into the surface of the skin in a slow circular motion is all that is required for the procedure to be effective.
Benefits of Microdermabrasion Creams
The ability to remove and carry away dead skin and other surface debris makes microderabrasion cream an essential component to regular skin care. The formulas for microdermabrasion cream varies by manufacturer. But all of them have one thing in common - non-toxic exfoliating crystals. Some manufacturers use zinc oxide or fine organic grit in their creams. However, aluminum oxide crystals are the most common. Since the process does involve a mild abrasion to the skin, most microdermabrasion creams contain ingredients to soothe and protect the skin from irritation and redness.
Some Points to Consider
Home treatment with microdermabrasion cream is far less expensive that salon treatment. However you will have to perform the procedure more often to get similar results. Also you should be aware that some redness may occur. It is important to remember that when applying microdermabrasion cream at home you need to go easy - especially around the cheeks. Aggressive rubbing will likely cause irritation and won't produce any better results. Also it is a good idea not to apply alpha hydroxy acids or salicylic acid within 12 hours of the treatment. If you are using mircrodermabrasion cream to to reduce surface scars, it will require multiple treatments (and it only works with raised scars, not sunken scars). There are some people who are satisfied with common exfoliants and feel that microdermadbrasion creams are unnecessary. Many people who use these creams find that it makes their skin feel vibrant and have a more youthful appearance. But results will vary. The bottom line regarding the use of microdermabrasion cream as part of a personal skin care program is a totally subjective decision.
