I used to think that my first dicorce was my midlife crisis, but I was only 25. After the next divorce, I still hadn't reached the magic of middle age, but I knew that "Mr. Two" was no better than "Mr. One."

My midlife crisis came with "Mr. Three." Yes, that's right...three of them before I realized I was looking for the father I never had. He died when I was six, but I know with each of my husbands, he was saying from Heaven, "Jesus, KK...what do you think you're doing? I wasn't perfect either!" He certainly couldn't convince me of that considering the fact that my mother (whom we now refer to as The Ancient One,') told us stories as we grew up about how Daddy was the most perfect man on EARTH. Du'uh...I never had a chance.

Now, I'm smart, middle-aged and not looking for a man to 'complete me.' I haven't figured out how to make love work, but my life is pretty dern complete without the mens. Besides, gay men serve all the purposes I need. They love and adore me, they don't demand sex at every turn, they live in their own houses, they like my cats and they'll gossip with me until the cows come home.

Midlife magic has entered my life now. I know what I want and what I don't want. I am following my passion instead of listening to a boss who wants me to 'know my place.' I'm a writer, videographer, comedienne, blogger and radio talk show host. How's that for a midlife crisis?!!!

I'm a boomer who is still rockin' on. I'm just cynical and jaded enough to only trust those who have proven themselves to be good friends. I'm so grateful for each new day that I could spit! And, I think the world knows me as I know it, and is damned grateful for my contributions.

And, I know that Daddy is now saying, "Hell, yeah...rock on sistuh!"
