Life is funny, sometimes. Business is even funnier...in a...snarling kind of way.

I'm a small business owner, I have two up and running, one is doing pretty well, right now, while the one that was doing really well, the moving company...is straight tanking, all of a sudden. That's not really what I wanna lay on ya', though...'cause it Is...gonna be alright. :)

The thing is this...because business has been incredibly slow over the last couple weeks, I thought to increase my advertising budget. I'm already in the Columbus phone book, I'm already in the paper, I use Craigslist, I send a kid out with flyers...all of which helps, but...

But...everyone's on the internet, nowadays. When I want something, some service or purchase item, I Google...yeah, everybody Googles, right? I Google...and you probably do, too.

However...if you wanna show up in searches, you have to spend some cash, which is cool...but if you wanna really show up, hit your target market, increase your flow...you have to use things like Adword and..Adsense...and here's the problem. The big companies, which I won't list, all those familiar names, large moving companies with huge advertising budgets and crackheads for movers, that steal your stuff and break things
...they just drown out the little guy, the owner/operaters who don't have the budget to compete in these keyword bidding wars. Leave aside me...take this other owner/operator, Mike
...he's a good guy, he hires good men. They're careful, they're quick. Your stuff gets treated the way you want it to be...at a very reasonable price. I don't mind competing with him, I send him my overflow, because I respect him...and his work.

These large companies, though...the customer's not getting that care. They're just getting expensive ads...and there's no veracity. They pay their employees very little, $8/hr or so...and you get what you pay for. Crackheads...

So, now, I'd like some advice...how do I get around these massive advertising budgets, the bidding wars which drive Ptc up to $5 a click? How do I get to these customers who I know would rather go with my company...because we do care?

How does the little guy win?
