Wow.
I think that’s the one word summary to the surge Mike Huckabee has experienced over the past couple of months. Just WOW.
The surge started a couple months back in Iowa when Huckabee came in second (to Romney) at the straw poll. That started getting him some notoriety.
The news on Huckabee was slow for a while until his HUGE showing at the values voters summit, where he blew away everybody else with his speech and the resulting voting results (448 Huckabee, 99 Romney).
Then came the famous Chuck Norris ad, which in my mind was an act of genius. I mean using a popular joke (Chuck Norris facts) to make HUGE strides in name recognition and also to generate massive amounts of free publicity. (the video has 1,148,094 views on youtube)

After that Huckabee started to jump in the polls. This jump was heavily concentrated in Iowa at the onset (with Huckabee going from the single digits to second place). But then he began to climb the national polls as well.
Now we can see the full affect of the Huckabee surge showing in polls around the nation!
Lets start in Iowa:
According to a recent Newsweek poll Huckabee is way ahead, leading Romney 39% to 17%
On Real Clear Politics (which averages all the major polls) he is 13.7% ahead of everybody else.
Next let’s look at the national picture:
Today’s Rasmussen national poll has Huckabee in the lead with 23%, Giuliani is 4% behind at 19%.
Other polls have him in the lead or extremely close behind
So in the most important areas Huckabee is ahead by respectable margins and we can clearly see the effects of the surge in those areas. But that is not the extent of Huckabee’s jump in popularity.
Other jumps for Huckabee:
A Survey USA poll has him 11% ahead in South Carolina
Public Policy Polling has him ahead in North Carolina
Strategic Vision polls have him first in Georgia and second in Wisconsin
IVR has him first in texas
In New Hampshire he has gone from as little as 1% in some polls to 14% in the latest Rasmussen poll
In Florida polls from Survey USA and Insider Advantage have him in second place
In California PPIC and Survey USA have him in third
In my home state of Pennsylvania Quinnipiac has Huckabee in third, the same goes for New Jersey
Huckabee has even surged on the internet, becoming the most visited campaign website (graph below)

The media is not yet fully aware of the support for Hucabee that is flowing across the nation through e-mails, church groups, family contacts, etc. By the end of December, Governor Huckabee will dominate in all the polls. Just tonight I stopped by a church in my old neighborhood and spoke with a Bible study group of seven women. They had been e-mailing and calling friends around the nation asking them to check out Mike Huckabee. He has brought conseratives like me back into the political process. Five years ago I gave up on the Republican Party, quit contributing to Republican candidates, and for the first time in fifty years of voting, voted a straight Democratic ticket. I am on board with Mike Huckabee and I have contributed to his campaign. He has my prayers, my financial support, and my vote.
Huckabee is a great speaker and campaigner with limited campaign funds. However he's not remotely qualified to be President. For one reason, in a perilous world, he's woefully ignorant of foreign policy issues and world affairs. Moreover, he's advocating an unworkable plan to adopt a 26% federal sales tax and eliminate the IRS, the income tax, the corporate profits tax, the capital gains tax and the inheritance tax. Enforcing a 26% sales tax would be impossible and if it were enforceable it would be terribly regressive, i.e., would bear most heavily on the poor and others least able to afford it.
Dear Ralph Deeds,
Sir, you need to read up on the Fair Tax. It is neither regressive nor unenforcable. Those below the poverty line would pay absolutely no tax. Since it is a sales tax, there would be no way to escape being taxed as is possible today through the underground economy or cheating on the income tax. Many of our citizens think that corporate taxes are actually paid by corporations. That is not true as only people pay taxes. Corporate taxes are passed on to customers in the form of higher prices. It is a hidden tax that few realize they are paying. Moreover, foreign corporations and U.S. companies that move off shore avoid most corporate taxes. The Fair Tax would even the playing field in that all merchandise would be taxed at the same rate, and the advantage the foreign companies now enjoy in the market place would no longer exist. I respectfull ask you to read up on the Fair Tax before claiming that it is not enforcable, unfair, or that the tax rate would be 26%.

As a Democrat, I hope Huckabee wins the Republican nomination. He will be the easiest to beat, no matter who wins the Democratic nomination.
Ralph - LOVE that video!
Well... according to the latest zogby poll you are wrong.
Hillary: 39% Huckabee: 44%
Oops. Was signed into the wrong account. I guess I should say the above comment is my personal opinion, not the opinion of HubPages. :-)
How are you affliated with Hubpages Jason?
Fair tax--Jim V. is correct.
It was conceived by leading economists at Harvard and other prominent American universities.
It leaves the poor people paying little, if any, taxes, because of its prebate provision.
It captures the $400 billion dollars of the underground economy that isn't taxed because it's hidden, as it doesn't show up in the form of official wages/ paychecks.
It captures the approx. $200 billion of unpaid taxes, when people hide/don't report their true incomes. So, the other 95% of people, who pay their taxes, get cheated, as does America.
It lowers the effective tax rate on the poorest people by about 12%, on the middle class by about 8%, and on the wealthy by about 4%.
No more ulcers for people worrying about April 15th each year.
It saves the millions and millions of dollars going to accounting departments and accountants, who pull their hair out trying to understand and comply with the 66,000 pages of tax code. (Code is a reasonable word for this, certainly.)
It is a piece of cake to collect, as that is done at the point of sale, the same way that state taxes are automatically done.
It saves the millions and millions of dollars going to IRS agents and departments, for them to do what the IRS does.
When Rudy Giuliani says that it eliminates the mortgage deduction, and that people would be unhappy with not getting the mortgage deduction: well, it gives you your whole paycheck, which is vastly more than the mortgage deduction. That leaves far more of your money for you and for your family.
Check it out for yourself. Easy enough. Decide for yourself.
From what I've read many tax experts say that such a high sales tax rate would provide such a great incentive to cheat or avoid it somehow that it would be very hard to enforce. Moreover, It makes no sense to decrease everybody's tax rate at a time when the debt is skyrocketing and nobody knows how we are going to pay for Medicare. This is a radical, pie in the sky proposal which will never be adopted.
And Mr. Medical doctor, I'd be interested in hearing your position on health care and Medicare, not to mention Social Security. My personal physician calls me a socialist every time we get into a discussion of politics, government and health care. He would do away with the FDA if he could, not to mention Medicare.
Jason Menayan;
I've been following Mike Huckabee for several years. He is not your typical politician. He has rewritten rule books and made incredible things happen for common people by doing the right thing. People are sick of dynastic politics. So I truly believe that Mike will not only be UNbeatable by any candidate, he will be the next President. Even Barack Obama's most respectful comment towards Republicans falls to Mike when he said, the man is honest and sincere. That's the harshest criticism Mike encounters. Many Democrats like Mike too. We keep meeting them. Be careful what you wish for as Mike may be the most formidable candidate anybody could imagine. He is not beholden to special interests or big money as all the others are... That scares the pants off the lobbyists and the political machines. Mike could change a LOT of things in this nation and that's why he has the support he does.
Richard RNC,
Great post.
You guys are making this up as you go. Surge?
How about comparing fund raising efforts. The people are speaking. Ron Paul has collected over $15,500,000 and the day isn't over. Huckabee has collected how much?
Put your support behind Ron Paul.
Ron Paul has absoultely no chance of winning any primary in any state in the country. Money can only buy you so much exposer and that exposer hasn't increased Ron Paul's support very much.
However, Mike Huckabee has relatively little money and has had an explosion in support.... what do you think that says about him?
It says that he has benefited from his ability as a public speaker, his ability to field tough questions adroitly, and his reluctant to indulge in personal attacks. He projects a very attractive image on television and throughout his campaign. He comes across as a nice guy.
Thank you Ralph Deeds, That was actually a very insightful analysis... keep it up.
I'm sorry $16 million as of 7:23 pm.
If he was really surging money would surge also. Where do you think exposure comes from? TV ads, Radio spots and so forth. Where do you believe exposure is for Huckabee? Without funds you buy less exposure.
Huckabee is a bit of a lightweight for a presidential candidate, in my opinion. If I were a Republican I could see him as a VP candidate with a McCain or Romney candidacy for President, (but I'm not a Republican! I'm a hardcore party-line Democrat.) Huckabee would help allay the doubts of the Christian conservatives about Romney and McCain.
The big money guys in Wall Street, Big Oil and Big Pharma aren't interested in Christian conservative issues. They want somebody like Romney or McCain or Giuliani or perhaps Clinton who will keep the government out of their hair. Somebody who can be bought and paid for or at least is sympathetic to their views.
Huckabee and Carter, birds of a feather?
College politico?
He's raised over $18 million this quarter. $6 mil just today.
yes I know hes raised massive amounts of money.... congradulations.
However his fundraising success has not translated into greater support in the polls.
I think Huckabee is da bomb so u haters are just haters!!!!

i see it as nothing less than a full on MIRACLE.
i think the Lord is going to make sure we get what we were promised by george bush and all the wallstreet republicans that hoodwinked the heartland to vote for him through a clever campaign of "Chrisitian values."
and we shall get that with Mike Huckabee.
! VIVA MIKE HUCKABEE !
