What does Mike Huckabee believe?

After his surprisingly successful bid for the republican nomination for president many people are wondering just what Mike Huckabee stands for...

Well those people are in luck because Mike Huckabee has written several books.

These books range from serious political manifestos to odd dieting guides. There is a list of books with a short summary below.

Character Makes a Difference: Where I'm From, Where I've Been, and What I Believe

Lets start off with his most telling book. It was published in june 2007 so it is very recent.

According to Amazon.com: Character Makes a Difference is Mike Huckabee’s biographical account of how he handled that potentially major constitutional crisis and why he believes character is the key issue in everyone’s life, “in the work you do, the candidates you vote for, the people who look to you for leadership.”

According to ontheissues.com: If you feel like you've missed one too many Sundays at church, this book is for you. Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former pastor, preaches the Gospel (literally) in this ostensibly political book.

Huckabee bashes "moral relativism," by which he means it's a bad idea for people to define what's right and what's wrong. God should define right and wrong, via the Bible and the Ten Commandments and so on. Those definitions should not change based on the idiosyncrasies of one society or another, or one time or another.

From Hope to Higher Ground: 12 STOPS to Restoring America's Greatness

Another Huckabee book deals with what he thinks is going wrong in our country an how he would fix it.

Heres a review from Booklist:

One of the longest-serving governors in the nation, Huckabee offers an optimistic outlook on the state of the nation. This is no Pollyanna view; Huckabee is candid about the nation's problems; as governor of Arkansas, he had a front seat from which to observe Hurricane Katrina and the disastrous recovery efforts. Part 1 of his book is a description of his small-town origins and the kinds of civic and church involvement and activities that bind communities. The second part of the book lists 12 action steps to avoid cynicism, the nation's number-one problem. Among his recommendations: don't believe bad reports without documentation, listen to more music and less talk radio, do volunteer work, and have regular conversations with people of other ethnic, religious, or political backgrounds. Republican Huckabee is from Hope, the same small town that produced former president Clinton. That fact and Huckabee's homespun prescriptions for curing the nation's ills will surely raise questions about his future political ambitions.

Kids Who Kill: Confronting Our Culture of Violence

Mike Huckabee has also written a book about violence among the youth in America. He analyzes the violent culture which is so influential in our country.

Here's a review of the book from acloserlook.com:

The question on the front cover of this book is a piercing call to self-examination: "Are we reaping what we've sown?" It doesn't allow us to point fingers at individuals or give trite explanations for the alarming increase in juvenile violence. Nor does Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas in his new book Kids Who Kill: Confronting Our Culture of Violence.

Character Is the Issue: How People With Integrity Can Revolutionize America

Huckabee has another book regarding character... anybody see a patern?

Here is an excerp from the book:

Responding to questions regarding his personal character, President Bill Clinton once told hi audience that "character isn't the issue." Yet our character defines the world we live in. Our governmen, welfare programs, schools, and everything else in our lives are shaped and directed according to our character.

Living Beyond Your Lifetime: How to be Intentional About the Legacy You Leave

Continuing with his character theme Mike Huckabee wrote a book about how your character affects your legacy in life.

Heres a review from Amazon.com:

Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee expands on the "character is the issue" theme by exploring the legacy of character. Whether in politics, marriage, education, or even business, what matters most is what lasts beyond the immediate to the ultimate. The challenge for all who wish not only to have character but to live a life of integrity is to live for those things which will build a legacy that increases in value over time. What matters most is what lasts beyond the immediate to the future.

Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork : A 12-Stop Program to End Bad Habits and Begin a Healthy Lifestyle

You may not have heard by now but Mike Huckabee used to be greatly overweight (see picture). He lost around 100 pounds and then he published a book on how to lose weight and live healthy.

Heres a review from Barnes and Noble:

As far as we have been able to determine, Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork is the first diet book ever penned by a U.S. governor. Arkansan Mike Huckabee didn't compose this book to win the obesity vote; he wrote it to share lessons that helped him shed 100 pounds and keep it off. Huckabee doesn't pretend to be a nutritionist and a fitness expert, but he does exhibit the same persuasive power that has made him a major attraction on the rubber-chicken circuit. He must be convincing: Both Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrat Bill Clinton have endorsed this book.

Heres the endorsements they're talking about:

Arnold Schwarzenegger - "Governor Huckabee’s fantastic lifestyle change is an inspiration and a model for our nation."

Bill Clinton - "Governor Mike Huckabee has proven that self discipline, diet, and exercise can lead to a happier, healthier lifestyle."

Other Books By Mike Huckabee

Mike Huckabee has also written a couple other books.

Books like The Joy Of Supernatural Thinking: Believing God For The Impossible and THE GODLY PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE are interesting and insightful guides to living as a Christian.

And then theres also the collection of his Public Papers, Speeches, and Policies for all those who want his true record.

i got the Hope to Higher Ground and Character Makes a Difference for Christmas... the Hope book is a pretty fascinating read... Huckabee I think has appeal beyond the Christian Right and (I think) the Republican Party.

its Hillary and Obama on the Democrats side and Romney, McCain and Mike on the Republican side .. only 1 person is worth voting for IMO and that is Mike Huckabee .. he has the integrity and character to lead this country back to its original greatness.

i believe we are going to see a completely different campaign from this point forward.

Make than McCain and Huckabee now... Don't forget too that beside Romney's conservative supporters, many who see they are deciding between McCain and Mike will change their minds also - I think Karl Rove is right... He can't win.... But Mike Can!

You're right, Mike still can win regardless of what the media tells you. If he can just keep McCain from getting the 1191 delegates, it will go to convention and there are delegates there that are unbound and from Romney, I think he stands a good chance at convention. Lets get him there and vote Mike Huckabee in your state primary.
