I am currently working on a paper mache sculpture of the robot from the 1925 Fritz Lang movie Metropolis. I plan on bringing it to Burning Man 2010 which will have the theme Metropolis next year.

If it all comes out looking acceptable, I plan to add 8 rings glowing in sequence done in cool neon surrounding the figure.

This is a work in progress shown in the photos below. I will add more as I progress. If there is interest I also plan to add more details and links.

KevCC (a fellow hub user) has given me a lot of good info and advice on paper mache techniques.

The first step, an armature made from PVC pipe and a wood base.

I don't have an image of the robot with just the newspaper layer. This is it after applying the pulp.

Starting to do the detail work. I now have been using a mixture of drywall cement, blown in insulation and PVA.

Amazing first hub. Small world; I work for a sub to Lockheed in Houston. You should move the text and pictures above the comments section. Click to edit the hub, then look at the right, where it shows the capsules. Drag the text up, do what changes in order you want, then click “reorder now”. For more information on hub basics, read all the sections of information at http://hubpages.com/guide/overview But a great hub and your photos are amazing! Take a look at my hubs if you want, and please comment if you have any suggestions. Keep up the good work. - Carol

Thanks Carol, I didn't notice last night I could move the comments too. Much better.

KevCC, I'll try to keep this hub with the latest. While the robot is drying I am going to practice on her face with a separate head armature. I'm trying the toilet paper pulp technique for details.
