Mindflex is one of the latest toys that was released in the Fall of this year, and is set to be one of the top gifts on the market this Christmas. It is also very different from anything else that is available today. The thing that really makes the Mindflex Game stand out, is that you literally have to use the power of you mind to play it.


Mattel who were founded in 1945, are a giant in the toy making industry and have created such big names as Barbie, Hot Wheels and also Fisher-Price.

Watching this thing in action is like watching something in a sci-fi movie. The aim of Mindflex is to move a ball around the course using the power of your mind. While this may look like Telekinesis, it is not. What actually happens is that the course contains a fan which makes the ball float, but your concentration level makes the fan propel the ball upwards or lowers it as your mind relaxes. You move the fan jet around the course using a dial and have to move the ball through various hoops and other obstacles which are a different levels by increasing or decreasing concentration, to move the ball up or down accordingly. The game reads your concentration levels via a headset that is worn while playing.

This Mindflex Game is designed as a party game and you can record your scores for others to try and beat. It will be all the more difficult and fun in a group setting, as I am sure the people that are not playing will be trying to distract the person in control, using more and more inventive methods.

There are also different difficulty settings for those who become advanced at it as well as different modes such as a light chasing game, points scoring mini games and timed obstacle runs.

Mattel has incorporated EEG technology to measure the brains concentration levels for the game. You may recognise EEG(Electroencephalography) as it has been used in hospitals for many years to record electrical activity that is around the scalp and is made by the firing of neurons from the brain. With the Mindflex headset there is a sensor in the headset itself and there are two other sensors that clip on to your ears, they measure Theta-activity, which is then turned into a signal and transmitted via radio waves to the Mindflex course. The more brain activity that there is the higher the ball will be propelled.
