Have you heard the term “brain control interface?” You soon will. Basically, it’s a technology that has been around for decades which involves reading brain waves and associating them to certain patterns to recognize and understand moods and other emotional states of mind. Once the patterns are determined, applications can be written to turn certain mental actions into real world actions.

The applications for a device like this are endless. It will solve an array of issues for those who have difficulties communicating and someday assist those with physical disabilities to gain or regain control of their lives. This is real Star Wars stuff. This is tapping into the “Force.”

Real life applications like the ones mentioned above may be years away in development, but Mattel has released a new game that uses a real brain control interface. It’s called Mindflex and it’s a game that you control with your mind.

Mind Flex is a game that uses a headset with sensors to read your brain waves and transmit them to the game console.  Just using the power of your own concentration, you raise a small plastic ball and with the assistance of small fans on the console, you maneuver the ball through an obstacle course.  The fans actually control the levitation of the ball and your brain waves control the power levels of the fans.

The Mindflex game comes with 9 customizable obstacles to create hundreds of combinations.  Some of the components included with the Mind Flex include the game console, the headset, 4 balls, and several obstacles like rings, funnels walls and shelf panels.  The game console requires 4 C batteries and the headset requires 3 AAA batteries which are not included.
