Mistakes to Avoid on The Internet
58People make humongous mistakes on the web. These mistakes can haunt one like a ghost from Christmas past. Call these the ghosts of past Internet mistakes.
These are just some of the most glaring mistakes:
1. Giving out to much information about oneself. (This is especially true for blogs.)
2. Publishing pictures than can prove to be embarrassing.
3. Writing a lot of negative stuff about other people etc.(Remember everyone might see this)
4. Hand over details to a phis-her. (This happens when a person hands over too much personal information to a site that is linked through an unsolicited or un-asked for email.)
5. Downloading spy-ware. (This frequently happens when a person clicks on a pop up window or downloads software.)
6. Emailing confidential information to online thieves. ( Just call them or snail mail. Never give bank account etc. over the net in email.)
7. Leave information on a public computer like in an Internet cafe, library, etc.(People often forget to sign out of their email and other sites that require a log on.
8. Using passwords that are too easy to use or leaving them in the computer..
There are some simple rules to follow to help overcome these errors or mistakes.
1. Never leave personal information on a computer.
2. Make the pass words complicated enough by including punctuation, numbers, etc. that are permitted but that you can remember. Never give out your pass word .
3. Log out of all sites into which you logged . This should be especially true even on your own computer because some day your computer may be worked on or repaired by someone else besides yourself. This individual could be trustworthy to repair but not so trustworthy with personal information.
4. Make sure if you get your computer repaired in a public place that you never have personal information on it.
5. Remember the Internet is a public place so be careful in what you publish.
6. Thank twice before giving permission for remote access or repair of computers.
The above rules should help you out. For more help look under "Internet safety on the Internet" and "avoiding mistakes on the Internet"
Happy computing.
