When the music's too cool for earphones, blast it on these iPod speakers that are big on sound vet small enough to tote around.

For the princess who loves anything wireless

Logitech has created the Pure-Fl Mobile which is Bluetooth-enabled to sync with your laptop, iPod and hand phone up to 10m away. It boasts impressive high-end and mid-range sounds so you can enjoy your Mozart as much as you're Maroon 5 on rechargeable batteries that last up to 12 hours. As a wireless speakerphone, it has two built-in mikes for picking up vocal nuances - you can now use the call-answer and cell-end controls to accept or end calls, while the other mike blocks unwanted background noise. There is a handy protective case and charging cables to pack you off to the next party. Weight: 1.2kg

For the sound guru who won't settle for less

The leader in sound quality, the Bose Sound dock Portable is a compact version of the original acclaimed Bose Sound dock speaker. Though there is no radio, it boasts an excellent bass, so it's the coolest thing to bring to a party. It's compatible with every iPod version but also accommodates other non-iPod portable media. The eight buttons on the sleek remote control are for tracks to volume control, and it is powered by a rechargeable lithium battery pack. Weight: 2.37kg

For the fashionista

The circular design resembles a cool flying saucer. Compatible with iPod touch, classic 3G and nano 3G, the JBL On Stage III speaker has a mini jack connection for MP3 and CD players, desktop computers, satellite radio and laptops. The round speaker provides excellent surround sound plus it charges your iPod at the same time - six AA batteries allow up to 12 hours of playback. The Navigation mode allows you to access the iPod menus to search music, watch slideshows and play videos. Weight: 450g

For the life of the party

Looking like little air fresheners, the cute X-Mini Max Capsule Speakers play music like a mini home theatre system surprisingly crisp for such a tiny investment, and they go on for up to 10 hours per charge. They produce a deep sound with a rich bass using a patented Bass Xpansion System which mimics the resonance of a sub-woofer. Although they come in a pair, you can use each on its own as a mono speaker. Also included are a USB charging cable, a rechargeable battery pack and a felt bag. Weight: 100g

For the hippie who travels light

The third-generation TravelSound i80 for iPod Nano by Creative is no thicker than a novel and the simplest to use. Click the iPod Nano onto the dock and you are ready to go. A full charge of the lithium batteries through USB connection gives you 15 hours of playback. The sound is better than that of earlier versions, but offers limited clarity and variations. You can watch your photos by propping it on the speaker stand that tilts your iPod at optimal angles. Weight: 90g

For the multi-tasker

Love your MPEG5 and videos? The AVL340 with its seven-inch widescreen LCD is for you. It is compatible with most iPod versions, the iPod video, iPod Photo and the iPhone. An auxiliary jack lets you play music, view photos and watch videos from USB pendrive, SD, MMC and MS cards. Push the 3-D surround sound button, and the sound is good, loud and clear. This also doubles as a digital photo frame. It can be plugged in or battery-operated, and comes with power and car adapters, and remote control. Weight: 131g

For the audiophile who digs every portable music device

The flat-panelled design of Altec Lansing's iM600 reminds us of radar. There are connections for video transmission so you can hook up to a TV and a mini USB port that allows you to access files on your computer or laptop. It's compatible with other non-Apple devices and comes with a remote control to navigate playlists and radio presets. The built-in batteries offer seven hours of playback and the sound is full and clear - try the sub-woofer output for louder sounds. Weight: 900g
