Modding your wii will only take about 30 minutes at the most. All that you will need is an SD memory card to put information on, and the game Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (i borrowed the copy i used, you won't ever need it again). If you currently have the 4.0 firmware it won't work. You'll have to wait on something new to come out for that.

You start by turning on twilight princess and making a save file. You then put your SD card into your wii and copy that save file onto it. You will then delete the save file that is saved on the wii memory because you are going to alter and replace it. Take the disk out and put it in your computer.

On your sd card there will be a file named "private", it will contain a "data.bin" file. Delete that file. Now open your browser and go to google.com and search for "the homebrew channel" and click on the first option then click download. Download the first two things, twilight hack and the homebrewer channel. Go to the twilight hack file find the file named "rzde0.bin" rename it "data.bin" and copy it to the private folder on your sd card. Now open your homebrew file and copy the .elf, README.txt, and the wiiload files and put them onto the root file on your sd card.

Put your sd card back into the wii and copy your save file back onto the wii memory. Make sure that you have already deleted the old save file. Now look on the bottom of game disk and see if the serial number ends in a 0 or a 2. Turn on zelda and open twilighthack0 or twilighthack2 corresponding with the final number of the serial number. Now just walk up to someone and talk to them and the setup of your Homebrew channel will initiate.

Your wii is now able to play dvds and burned games. If you'll just buy a external hard drive you can now install your games into the hard drive and mark it off your list because you'll have it to play anytime you want. It does alot of other things too. Google it and you'll find out what else you can do with it. Enjoy.
