Modest Wedding Gowns

There are varying degrees of what is considered to be modest wedding gowns, but I think we can all agree that in general this means a gown that does not show too much bare skin. Be that cleavage, back or legs!

For some the choice of modest bridal gowns will be for religious reasons, but for others it will be purely a matter of personal preference and I applaud you as there is nothing more gracious than a modest Bride. We have all the time in the world for wearing any dress of our choice, but our wedding day is a totally different occasion, one to be celebrated for sure, in a manner of style and elegance befitting a princess.

Speaking of princesses if you are looking for a perfect example of modest wedding gowns take a look at some of the photographs from Princess Diana’s wedding. Hers was an exceptionally stunning gown and can be used as a point of reference when choosing your own modest wedding gowns.

Modest Wedding Gowns Guidelines

Although an open backed gown may not be considered suitable, you may choose an open backed gown where the opening is covered in a light chiffon type of fabric.

Sleeves

Any length of sleeve is fine for modest wedding gowns even capped sleeves. Stay away from strapless or spaghetti strapped gowns. Also stay away from off the shoulder gowns as these are considered provocative.

Neckline

High necklines can look very elegant although are best suited to a slimmer figure, but you may choose from any range of necklines as long as they do not boast too much cleavage.

Length

Modest wedding gowns are traditionally floor length gowns, but this is not to say that varying slightly from tradition by choosing a tea length gown for example would not still be considered modest. However, it is advisable to check with your church minister if the place where you are getting married has certain guidelines of their own.

Modest Wedding Gowns Custom-Made

If you have your own design in mind or have found a picture of modest bridal gowns worn by some one famous that you want to have replicated you may choose to have it custom-made for you.

Finding a good seamstress is vitally important though. If you can get some one recommended that would be best, especially if you have seen a gown they made for a friend. Alternatively, some Bridal shops do custom make gowns at their stores to specific requirements and this is a good option because you will be able to view the other gowns in the store to find out what their quality if like.

Be very specific about what you want. Cut pictures out of magazines or even find a pattern for the gown you want or at least similar to it.

Allow for plenty of time to for fittings and any alterations.

Modest Wedding Gowns Personalizing

It often happens that in your search for modest wedding gowns you come across a simply stunning gown that is just not quite modest enough for your liking. Always keep in mind that minor alterations can be made to any gown that will enhance its features as well as making it less revealing, like adding lace or tulle to the neckline or even having sleeves fitted where there were none before.

You will need a good and trusted seamstress if you are not capable of making these alterations yourself and you will also want to confirm that the gown will still retain its beauty if such work was done to it.
