Molly is favorite pet name for both dogs as well as cats.

Molly is top dog -- and cat -- when it comes to Britons' favorite name for their pet.

According to Direct Line pet insurance company in UK, Molly is the number one favorite pet name for owners who owned cats or dogs.

There are some overlap in other favorite names for cats and dogs such as Charlie, Max.

The next popular names for Cats were Charlie and Tigger, while for dogs it was Max and Charlie.

Some owners seem to name their pets on celebrities recently. In the last two years, there has been a 25 percent increase in the number of pets named after English Soccer Star Wayne Rooney and a 46 percent increase in the number of pets named after Pop singer Kylie Minogue.

The names seeing the biggest increases were Ozzy for a cat and Rocky for a dog, while more unusual monikers included Gandalf, Harry Potter and a moggy called 50 Cent.
