"Jacob's Journal - My Journey Home"

"Jacob's Journal - My Journey Home" was written by a first-time mom who's son was diagnosed at birth with Down Syndrome. I decided when Jacob was born that I was going to keep a journal. Being a first-time mom I wanted to remember and share all that I was experiencing.

We found out when I was four months pregnant that Jacob had a heart condition: Tetralogy of Fallot. We were told that with that diagnosis the chances of him having Down Syndrome were extremely high, and we were offered an amniocentesis. However, with all we went through to get pregnant ie: infertility shots, in-vitro we viewed Jacob as a blessing from God, so no matter the diagnosis that was not going to change our minds so we declined.

After Jacob's birth the tests confirmed his diagnosis of Down Syndrome, and so started a whirlwind of events.

"Jacob's Journal - My Journey Home" was written as if my son was telling the story. It's compelling, heartwarming and informational. This book was written as a celebration of my son and all that he endured the first six months of his life. It was also meant to provide hope. Even though the diagnosis of "Down Syndrome" sounds scary, he is truly a miracle and my greatest accomplishment!

My best friend has a daughter with Downs, now 21 years old. She's doing very well, having been raised by a loving mother. I still remember how shocked she was that even just a mere 21 years ago some were recommending institutionalization. Best wishes to you all.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's amazing how the world has changed unfortunately some doctors are still pushing some families into aborting when they find out the diagnosis. That's why my result from the amnio didn't matter. We knew we were going to love him and be proud of all his accomplishments no matter what they were. Thank you again and best wishes to your friends daughter.
