Internet has become very much integrated in our lives.  Just like any parent, 

I always worry about how much information is out there that my daughter can 

access that is inappropriate for her.  I have become very vigilant and I make 

sure I monitor her activitiesin the Internet.  One of the activities I 

monitor is playing games online.

She loves to play online games with friends.  Just like any parent out there, 

I always wonder if she is going to a safe Internet site.  

Here are some things I do and would recommend to any parent:

1. sat down with your child and watched him/her play just to make sure you are 

comfortable withthe online games he/she plays; are these appropriate for your 

child's age? 

2. In today's environment, I highly recommend to all parents to check out the 

internet sites your kids arevisiting and make sure these are safe and you are 

okay with the content of the sites; 

3. talk to them about the dangers that are lurking in internet; 

4. set the ground rules such as he/she should not open an account with 

any site without parent's permission

5. limit the amount of time they play to make sure it does not interfere 

with homework and study; 

6. let your child know that from time to time, you will be checking his/her 

account to make sure there are no access to inappropriate sites; 

7. know what is going on online; 

8. know who your child is interacting online.

Below are some sites I have checked out and I am comfortable with for my 11 year 

old child:

Club Penguin

Safe place for kids to play online with their other friends as penguins. Players 

earn virtual coins as they play along which they can use to buy different items

for themselves or their igloos. Site is dedicated to kids ages 6 - 14. 

Very cool, fun place!

Runescape

Online gaming where adventure is without limit; where players meet mythical & mystical 

characters. It is set in total fantasy with usual combat and conflict thus maybe more 

appropriate for kids 13+. Very popular site for kids.

Maple Story

Another popular online site for kids where the player explore new and unknown places, 

become adventurers as they journey through Maple World!
