I recently finished watching my fourth season of Monk and I know I’m behind, but it’s been a while since I’ve had some me time. Anyway I was looking on my hub’s recently and thought, I need a new one. So in the end I decided I could do a hub on Monk having run into a writers block. So here goes nothing:D

Monk is a American detictive series and portrays the life of a man, Adrian Monk played by Tony shaloub, and his obessive compulsive disorder. It portrays his life after his wife trudy, was killed in a car bomb meant for him. It conveys monk as a brilliant detective for the san fransico police department. He works as a private detective who often helps his friends and co-workers at the police department, Captain leland stottlemeyer ( Ted levine, “Goodbye horses”XD) and lieutenant Randy Disher ( Jason Grey-Stanford). It portrays his life after the car bomb, which sends is OCD sky-high after a nervous breakdown.

Monk’s life is shown to be tragic, nearly all the time. After having suffered the nervous breakdown, the trauma and grief from his wife’s death, and not being able to leave the house untill a nurse named Sharona (Bitty Schram) comes to his rescue. Sharona soon becomes his “assistant”, as throughout the episodes Monk finds himself compelled by the prowess possessed by Sharona and thus envious. It’s a pity I really have to say, I didn’t wan’t Sharona replaced, after season three, Bitty Schram left her role as Sharona in monk after a dispute with the director. You can guys may disagree, but Sharona’s role as Monk’s assistant seemed to work so perfectly, showing both to be on different ends of the radar, but having someone who understand him. His life in Monk is conveyed as almost always unbearable, with some episodes such as, ‘Mr Monk takes his medicine’. In this episode he was shown to take drugs as suggested by his phyciatrist Dr Kroger. His loneliness and detachment from reality is conveyed as being a comforted reliance from his attachment of his late wife Trudy. Its quite sad if I’m honest, showing a contrast between his simple nature to his undying attacthment from reality. this element of his character are among others what makes his character so interesting yet simple. This I believe makes good tv.

Natalie Teeger - Traylor Howard

"Monk is a living legend. Quick, brilliant, analytical... [with] an encyclopedic knowledge of a dozen unconventional and assorted subjects, from door locks to horticulture to architecture to human psychology". Breckman's description of Monk

The complexity of many of Monk’s characteristics, such as his complicated relationship with his brother and his dad all contribute to his downfall, mentally. His brother Ambrose, is shown to be agrophobic, and is estranged from his brother since Trudy’s death. Many of Monk’s problems and phobia’s can be traced back to his childhood, and complications with OCD. His father who left him when he was eight, when he went out to get some chinese food and never return(untill the episode, Mr. Monk meets his Dad). The episodes often show his many problems in life, conveying his problems as some sort of atachment, or childhood experience.

We’ll I’ll probably update this blog a few times, but I’ve got to say, of all the tv choices ive made, this one isnt another miserable mistake. Infact its fun, entertaining and in a simple way peacefull. With the character you feel you can interect and understand his problems, you feel his misery, you feel his pain. Anyways instead of boring you I’ll let you get on with you day, and my final messege is recommending Monk to you sublime viewers:D:D

Peace:D

This is an interesting commentary. I love Monk, as I am a fan of both comedy and detective shows. I started watching it in its first season, and stopped after Sharona left the show because I didn't think Natalie could be as good. Well, that, and I don't have cable at home.

But a few years later I just happened to notice Season 6 on DVD at the store, and decided to watch it. Now I have really grown to like Natalie as Monk's assistant. Her character is definitely different from Sharona's, yet her an Monk have this surprising and humorous chemistry. In fact I won't be surprised if they end up together. It's too bad that the series only has four episodes left, but yeah you should give her a chance. The seasons get better as you go. :)
