Although Distance education is a form of online learning, online learning is Distance Education most powerful competitor. You asked, "How is that?" Even though Distance Education is synonymous with online learning, at one time Distance Education was very popular. It was all we had aside from the classroom.

Many, many, many years back we learned via the postal service. Courses were sent through the mail. We then graduated to telecourses that were delivered via telephone or television and radio. Once personal computers hit the market in the late 70's, early 80's that is when online learning came on the scheme. Not only is online learning offered on the personal computer. It is now offered on your wireless mobile devices. That is why the question is asked "Is Online Learning For You?" Everyone is not responsive to the type of technology needed for online learning.

Today anything you want to learn can be done online. Name a topic and there is an online course for it. Most colleges and universities now offer online courses and degrees.

Online learning couldnot replace a school as internet could not replace the importance of books.Yeah,in some angles it could be and is beneficial for many people.

In response to topstuff: As you know or should know, nothing remains the same. Time brings about a change therefore, someday a replacement may be necessary.
