Morning Sickness - A Normal Part of Pregnancy
Most women search for morning sickness cures when they are pregnant. More than half of all pregnancies cause morning sickness. Morning sickness usually starts at about 4-6 weeks and subsides for most women by the fifth month. Some unfortunate mothers deal with morning sickness throughout the pregnancy.
Morning sickness symptoms can be mild or severely debilitating. Either way, there are some morning sickness cures that can help alleviate the discomforts of morning sickness during pregnancy. Not all morning sickness cures work for everyone. Experiment with the following morning sickness cures to see which ones may be effective for you. There are suggestions for foods to eat, foods to avoid, beverages and teas that help ease morning sickness during pregnancy, aromatherapy, herbs for morning sickness, acupressure, and vitamins and over the counter medications that work well for morning sickness cures.
Be sure to see your doctor, however, if morning sickness becomes so severe that you are unable to keep any food down at all. If nothing seems to work for your morning sickness, your doctor will be able to prescribe medication that will help ease morning sickness discomfort.
Best Foods For Morning Sickness Cures
The age old advice of eating crackers as a cure for morning sickness holds up. When I was pregnant, I ate saltine crackers first thing in the morning. I kept them by my nightstand so that I could eat a few crackers before I ever even got out of bed.
Other options to eat first thing when you wake up for morning sickness cures are potato chips. I especially recommend the salt and vinegar potato chips. The added vinegar seemed to work better for my morning sickness than regular potato chips.
Tart or sour foods seem to work well as morning sickness cures. Besides the salt and vinegar potato chips mentioned above, sour or dill pickles also help cure morning sickness.
High protein foods are good at easing morning sickness. Gelatin snacks mentioned above help. Also peanut butter is a high protein food that helps alleviate morning sickness. Boiled eggs are another protein option if the strong smell doesn't make you nauseous.

Beverages As Morning Sickness Cures
Lemonade drank throughout the day was one of the popular morning sickness cures for many of my friends. One friend took the lemonade and made popsicles with it. She was pregnant in the summer and so she claimed that the lemonade popsicles provided double duty for her.
One theory about morning sickess is that it is caused by dehydration. Be sure to get plenty of liquids throughout the day. Besides water and lemonade, try drinking sports drinks that are fortified with electrolytes. The electrolytes will help to keep a person hydrated better than plain beverages.

- Besides the types of foods to eat to cure morning sickness, be aware of foods to avoid. Foods with strong smells, spicy foods, and high fat food are all potential triggers for morning sickness. Also avoid drinking beverages containing caffeine.
- Try to eat a light snack a few minutes before rising. The best time is about twenty minutes before you get up.
- Eat small meals and snacks every couple of hours throughout the day to keep blood sugar levels evened out. Avoid eating large meals.
- Some snack suggestions are crackers, potato chips, plain toast, candied ginger, pretzels, gelatin, sour pickles, celery sticks, raw carrots, and air popped popcorn. All of these snacks seem to be well tolerated by most pregnant women, and many of them help alleviate morning sickness.

Lemons Are Effective Morning Sickness Cures in Many Ways
Lemons are very effective morning sickness cures. Besides lemonade, just sucking on a lemon or smelling a lemon peel can help with morning sickness. Some people have claimed that sour lemon candy also helps with morning sickness.
Another effective morning sickness cure using the scent of citrus is lemon or lime essential oil. Just keep a cloth handy sprinkled with a few drops of lemon and/or lime essential oil. Whenever morning sickness hits, inhale the cloth. It works remarkably well.
A similar, commercially available product is available called Happy Mama Spray. Happy Mama Spray is an aromatherapy spray made with essential oils including ginger and lime. Simply spray it on your wrists when you experience morning sickness. Many pregnant women swear by Happy Mama Spray as a morning sickness cure.

Ginger Is One of the Best Morning Sickness Cures
Ginger is one of the best morning sickness cures around. Ginger works for all types of nausea, and morning sickness is no exception.
Crystallized ginger is my favorite morning sickness cure. If you don't like crystallized ginger or don't have access to it, make ginger tea. Simply boil sliced and peeled ginger root in water. Strain. Sweeten with honey. If you add a little lemon juice as well, this is an excellent morning sickness cure.
If you want an effective morning sickness cure, don't try ginger ale. Today's ginger ale has very little, if any, genuine ginger added to it. If neither of these ginger morning sickness cures suits you, try eating foods spiced with ginger.
You can also take ginger pills for morning sickness. 500 mg of ginger taken three times daily is the recommended dosage as a morning sickness cure. Consult your physician before taking the ginger pills to be sure there are no contraindications for your specific pregnancy.

Peppermint Oil Pills As Morning Sickness Cures
Peppermint oil pills work wonders for morning sickness. Be sure to use pills containing peppermint oil, not pills that contain peppermint leaves. Peppermint oil is much more effective at getting rid of nausea than the leaves.
Simply take the peppermint pills first thing in the morning or when you start to feel the morning sickness symptoms. If you want to try drinking peppermint tea for morning sickness, be sure it is decaffeinated. If peppermint oil pills aren't available, peppermint patties candy works pretty well in a pinch.
OTC Medication and Vitamins for Morning Sickness Cures
Vitamin B6 is one of the best morning sickness cures for a lot of pregnant women. It takes a few days to become effective, but it works for most women.
Combining vitamin B6 with the sleep aid "Unisom Nighttime Sleep-Aid" is even more effective at curing morning sickness. Be certain to get this particular Unisom formulation, and not a different Unisom product.
Unisom causes sleepiness, so don't take it when you have to drive or under any conditions that would compromise your safety. And of course, always ask your doctor before taking any medications during pregnancy.

Morning Sickness Cures Comments
Great Hub! I wish my wife would have known this stuff years ago. We don't need it anymore (thank God!). I have some friends I can refer!
Have you heard of the new lollipops that are supposed to help alleviate morning sickness? I saw a program about it on tv the other night - looks interesting.
This is a really nice hub!I had major problems with morning sickness too, and nothing worked. I tried ginger, crackers, etc.. Check out my blog to see what also worked for me.
I did everything mentioned here but nothing worked. No amount of Ginger, Prego-Pops (lollipops to help alleviate nausea), crackers, or ginger ale helped with my non-stop nausea because I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). It is a little known debilitating pregnancy disease that causes the mother to have non-stop nausea and vomiting. My mission is to raise awareness about the disease in hopes of finding the cure one day.

I loved on B6 and Unisom throughout my whole pregnancy. It really works. I didn't try any of the others however. Great Hub. Morning sickness stinks!
