Morning and Evening Devotions
55Maturity Comes
As we grow in Christ it is His desire that we mature, we mature through spending time in His Word and hopefully we learn through our own mistakes. Spending time is His Word is so essential as we look at all the problems in the world today.
By doing so we can find many answers in Him and the message that He has left us. It is only by spending time with the Father in Morning and Evening devotions can He speak into our hearts what He has called us to learn before we begin our busy days and to glean through the struggles we have faced throughout the day. The question then being "What is it Father You wanted to show me this day"?
The importance of daily rhythms of prayer and worship are found in the roots of the Tabernacle and Temple ordinances set out by God in the Old Covenant and the people of the day.
Ours
The Rhythm
Notice the rhythm of the following verses in Exodus 29:38-42
This is what you are to offer on the altar regularly every day: two lambs a year old. Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight. With the first lamb a tenth of an ephah of fine flower mixed with a quarter of a hin oil from pressed olives, and a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering. Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and its drink offering as the morning - a pleasing offering made to the Lord by fire. For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regular at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord. There I will meet you and speak with you.
Its a blessing for us today that we can simply come to the Father daily without making the sacrifices called upon the people of those days.
Exodus 30:7-8
Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularily before the Lord for generations to come.

In Him For Him
In the New Covenant every believer in Jesus is part of the Royal Priesthood as we can see in these verses.
1 Peter 2:4-5... "As we come to Him, the Living Stone, rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him - you also, are living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable by God through Jesus Christ".
1 Peter 2:9..."But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light".
In fact, in the New Covenant we ourselves are the temple in which God lives by His Holy Spirit as we see in the following verses.
1Corinthians 3:16..."Don't you know that you yourselves are Gods temple and tat Gods spirit lives in you".
1 Corinthians 6:19..." Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, who you have received from God".
Incense And Prayer
Together
It is also interesting to note that incense is linked to prayer in Revelation:
And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Prayer
Daily Rhythms
So keep the daily rhythms of morning and evening devotions to offer prayer and spiritual "sacrifice" as faithful priests in Gods new covenant.
Devoting time on a regular basis to God is also very practical. It nourishes the spirit in much the same way that morning and evening meals nourish our bodies. Many great Biblical characters of the Bible such as Daniel show us the many benefits of setting aside regular, dedicated times to be with God.
Once we establish a pattern and a habit of spending this time with God it becomes very easy to keep and continue. It becomes the same as meal time, once establish the body and mind become accustomed to it.
Take the time to spend that enriched time with God and God will begin to show you the many blessings of living a spiritually healthy life. It takes commitment, it take dedication and it takes time. That simple sacrifice on your part will open a whole new spiritual experience for you. If given a choice would you not start and end your day reading His Word and spending time with Him.
It becomes a simple choice of what you feed your mind and your spirit is what plays out in your life. Watch a disturbing news cast or program on TV and know that will not let you rest as God intended.
Father I pray that you move each of us to spend more time with You, as we do Father to become open to what You are teaching, to become good stewards of what is right and just. Grant us all peace as we move through this life, may we bare fruit and be plentiful to all those who are lost. In Your Holy Name we pray.

A wonderful seed to have planted into a young fertile mind, what a legacy to asume RevLady, as I was reading your comment God gave me a brief vision of the generations that will follow you in doing the same. It is your faithfulness to the Father and His Word that have made you who you are today.
Thank You Father for bringing this special sister along side the many who she teaches, her daily witness is a light for many to see. The seeds which were planted in her early in life will bring much fruit in the generations to follow. Bless her this day Father.
Thank you for this hub. i start my day with the Lord, but now I'll end my day in devotions. Thanks for the info.
God bless you
Great to hear, thanks for stopping by, high five on the evening devotion, may the Father jusrt bless your socks off...

These song lyrics come to mind. "Take time to be holy speak often with God." and then the Scripture "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." The time we take to set apart unto the LORD is time well spent. It is so easy to forget that in the business of our day. It is always something I need reminded of. Distraction comes to easily for me and I must make a concerted effort to spend time with Him, and always I am ever grateful for the fact that He longs to spend time with me.
And that He does, He is a God that awaits for us at all times. He knocked at my door often, stood and waited through all sorts of weather, simply patiently waited till one day I opened the door to the best friend I could have ever asked for...He is a gracious God.

I agree with you totally-My husband and I were brought up in homes where evening family prayer was normal practice-and so we have carried it on;so often now it's the only time we can all come together as a family-and a good time to remember those who can't be with us too.God Bless.
I'm still not going to tell him where the puddings are though!possy or no possy-:)
OK I will call off the posse, well for now at least...smiles.
I agree its a discipline that requires sacrifice but one that has so many blessings. The Word becomes such a part of who you become. Thank you for your comment and testimony of you as a family.
Many Blessings...Now I am hungry again

My mother planted the seed. I still vividly remember every morning seeing her sitting in our living room, in this French provincial chair, reading God's Word. As I age in God grace, I have discovered what she knew, that daily devotions is not optional but obligatory for keeping in right relationship with God and allowing my mind and spirit sufficient time to hear His wisdom, direction and admonitions. Though I commune with God all through the day, every morning specifically, I sit in my recliner and prayerfully meditate on God's Word. It makes such a difference in not only how I deal with challenges that visit my home, but it keeps all of life in proper perspective. Thank you for affirming the value of consistently spending time with God.
