Entertainment in Moscow
64There are certainly plenty of wonderful and exciting things to do and see in Moscow. In fact, there are so many that you may just have a hard time narrowing down your choices for the amount of time that you can spend in Moscow. If you are looking for a way to spend an entertaining evening out, there are plenty of options from which to choose. Whether you are interested in circus acts, the ballet, the theater or music, there are many different entertainment options in Moscow that will provide you with a wonderful evening.

Great Moscow State Circus
If you are a fan of circuses, you will not want to miss the opportunity to visit this one. The Moscow circus first opened in April of 1971. The first thing that you will likely notice about the circus is the massive size of the auditorium. It rises to an imposing height of 36 meters and has a seating capacity of 3,400 people. There are five interchangeable rings on the main floor. These rings are used for a variety of different performances and acts, including different animal, ice, water and horse acts. There is also a sixth ring in the circus which performers use for warm-ups and rehearsals prior to the shows.
There are several hundred different artists who are employed at the circus at any given time. They offer more than fifty different specialized acts including juggling, aerial gymnastics, clowning and animal acts. While the artists do perform frequently at the circus, they also perform regularly at international and European competitions and festivals. Currently, performances are held at the circus on a daily basis. Matinees typically begin at 3pm while evening performances begin daily at 7pm.
Moscow Art Theater
If you are more into theater, you will certainly want to schedule a visit to the Moscow Art Theater, where you will be treated to superior dramatic art presentations. The theater was founded in 1898 with the purpose of offering new art forms, specifically psychological realism and theatrical naturalism.
The theater has certainly had a long and distinguished history, both in terms of the city's development as well as the development of theater and drama in Moscow as well. During the more than 100 years that the theater has been open, it has hosted some of the biggest names in Russian theater and drama. The theater has also become well known for offering pioneer theatrical actors, producers and directors. Today the theater is known for offering a repertoire of international drama classics, including works from Chekhov and Tolstoy. Be sure to check the performance schedule and plan a visit by the Moscow Art Theater while you are in town.

Is music more your style? A visit to Tchaikovsky Concert Hall will certainly be in order if that is the case. The hall was originally constructed to serve as a theater for avant-garde producer and director Meyerhold, who actually began his career at the Moscow Art Theater. At the time it was planned for the theater to offer a double revolving stage that lends itself well to experimental theatrical productions.
Meyerhold was arrested and subsequently killed and the theater was later transformed into a concert hall. Today it is home to the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, which was founded during the 1930s. The first concert program was offered in 1936. Regular concerts are offered by the Russian State Symphony at the Hall. In addition, numerous visiting international choirs, ensembles, conductors and soloists perform frequently at the hall as well. When planning a visit, make sure you check the performance schedule ahead of time to determine when the Russian State Symphony will be in performance as well as possible performance times for other individuals and groups as well.
State Kremlin Palace
The State Kremlin Palace was constructed between 1959 and 1961. You will find it in the Kremlin complex, immediately to the right of the entrance. At the time of its construction, the palace was meant to host congresses from the Party. The Palace has an auditorium that is capable of seating up to 6,000 people.
Today the Palace offers performances by the Kremlin Ballet Company as well as different rock and pop artists from around the country and the world. If you would like to attend a performance at the Palace, it is a good idea to check the performance schedule ahead of time. Performances are offered on a fairly regular basis, but they are not offered daily, so you should check ahead of time to plan to attend performances when they become available. Also, be sure to take your camera with you as you will certainly want to take pictures while you are there.
