76I live in florida most of my life and has experience some horrible hurricanes, a lot of storms and tropical storms, but I did a little of research and found out some of the worst hurricanes that has ever landed on the United States. It amazed me the amount of millions of dollars in damaged that some of this hurricanes have caused, Some of the worst storms have passed through florida, simply because most of the storms form in the caribean and move upward towards the north. Here are the worst 5 most costly hurricanes of all times.
1) Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina a category 5 with an estimated damaged of $76,000,000,000 was one of the dealiest and costly storms of all time that has ever experience the US. In 2005 this category 5 hurricane flooded 80% of the major coastal cities,Louisiana was hit the worst and took most most of the damage. Hurricane Katrina claimed the lives of 1,604 people making it one of the deadliest in history and the biggest natural disaster to ever hit the US.
2) Hurricane Andrew
Hurricane Andrew in 1992 was a category 5 with an estimated damaged of $45,000,000,000. It stroke the south florida part of miami and Andrew was one of the most destructive hurricanes on record second only to Katrina.In addition to being rated as one of the costliest Andrew is also on the top 5 list for most intense hurricanes. Fortunately the death count was fairly low considering the force of the storm.
3) Hurricane Charlie
A category 4 hurricane with an estimated damaged of $15,400,000,000 and it touched land on SW Florida Fort Myers,it made landfall on August 13, 2004 and it was the second tropical storm to hit Florida after Bonnie, ten deaths were reported caused by Charlie.
4) Hurricane Ivan
Hurricane Ivan was a category 3 and an estimated damaged of $17,700,000,000 Ivan made landfall near the gulf shores, Alabama and moved towards the southern United States, with winds of about 130 miles per hour it claimed the lives of about 93 people, it also caused several large tornadoes in several different cities.
5) Hurricane Hugo
A category 2 hurricane with an estimated damaged of $15,600,000,000 in 1989 this storm made landfall on south carolina and made its way through north carolina, this storm was one of the most destructive storms on record, it took the lives of about 100 people.
