Believe it or not there is a Better business bureau online. You should be able to do research on any company, just as you could if you were looking for a reliable plumber. You have to be careful because there are sites that look legitimate, like on line business review for example, they have fancy names but there again you have to look deeper than just seeing a fancy website wanting to get a hold of your money.

Keep in mind there are lots of home based business opportunities that don't even involve the internet. Cleaning businesses, various types of service based businesses where people basically work out of their home, carpet cleaning, so if your intent is to start a home based business, please do your home work. Affiliate marketing isn't new in fact it's been around the internet for some time. The principle behind it is you find a company that will pay you to send people to their websites to purchases things, in turn they give you a spiff or commission for the successful transaction. You can go to sites such as Click bank, Commission Junction and others that are a hub for companies that offer affiliate programs. Many of those sites give a rating for the companies as far as how they pay. Some companies have excellent ratings and others not so good, plus you want to look at the payouts for each company to see if it is worth your time to get involved with that company. My suggestion is to pick an area to specialize in, they call it a niche. For instances you could have a site that focuses on travel, or maybe a site for internet marketers that are looking for software to use in their businesses.
