Tips for Choosing Mother of the Bride Outfits
65Have you ever seen some mother of the bride outfits that made you think, "What in the world…?" Chances are that if you've been to enough wedding in your lifetime, you've seen at least one that made you shake your head in wonderment and think to yourself, what was this poor woman thinking?
But what's frightening is if you are the one shopping for some mother of the bride outfits. You of course want something that's beautiful and tasteful and classy, and that expresses your personality as well, but you don't want to be one of those women that will make other people shake their head in wonderment. How can you be sure that you're making the right decision? How can you be sure that you'll be the one choosing mother of the bride outfits that will be just the right choice for you? Don't worry, we can help! There are a few very simple tips you can keep in mind to choose just the right one for you.
Know Your Body Shape
This may be a difficult thing for a woman of a particular age to do, since your body may not be shaped the way you want it to be, and probably not the way it once was! But don't be too hard on yourself in this regard. There are many mother of the bride outfits that are purposely designed to hide just about any figure flaw and to give you just the right nips and tucks and support where most women your age need them. However, you do need to be honest about your figure; your assets and your, um, non-assets. For instance, perhaps your legs are a bit shorter than average. You would probably want to avoid mother of the bride outfits that have long slits. Maybe your arms just aren't as toned as they once were. You may want to choose something with sleeves.
Some women just like dresses that are flowing and billowy because they make her feel feminine, but some mother of the bride outfits that have very full skirts may just make you look heavy. At least try one or two that are more structured in the skirt or bodice, as these may give you a slimmer silhouette.
Know Your Age
This too may be difficult for some women to do, but let's face it, if you're old enough to have a child that's getting married, you're old enough to put away the miniskirts and plunging necklines. This is true even if you still have a great figure. Mother of the bride outfits can be very flattering and beautiful, but wearing clothes or styles that are far too young for you is just embarrassing. You don't need to dress like an old lady if you don't feel like an old lady, but wearing the same style as your teenage niece or your daughter's new stepdaughter is just going to put you back into that category of women that raises eyebrows.
It's Her Day, Not Yours
It's important to remember that this day is about someone else, not you, when looking at mother of the bride outfits. Choosing the biggest, fanciest, most attention getting outfit that's out there is really not appropriate if it's going to upstage the bride. This means not just for how fancy and eye-catching the outfit is, but how modest it is as well. You may be proud of your figure and you may even have gotten some work done recently, but this is not the time to be showing this off. Mother of the bride outfits don't need to be a tent but should be somewhat modest. Wear that slinky little number some other time.
And of course you should check with the bride when choosing mother of the bride outfits. She may have some preferred colors for you; at the very least make sure your outfit doesn't clash with the wedding party. And if the wedding is going to be in a church or synagogue, be mindful of their dress requirements, even if this isn't your religion. This is not the day to make a statement about your beliefs or to show off in any way.
If you keep these tips in mind, you're sure to make the right choice, regardless of how many mother of the bride outfits you see!

Nice hub. Good info to keep mothers of the bride on the right track ... hopefully! Every wedding I've been to I've wondered where their head was when they made the decision to wear their outfit! Sometimes the outfit is fine but then the shoes or the hat is just scary!
