Mothering: Career Woman vs. the Stay at Home Mom
78
There is a great debate that exists between the working career mom's and the stay at home moms. Often stay at home moms are seen as better moms then the working sort. They tend to be doing this and that for their families and it seems that they have sacrificed for their families, but does that make them better mothers then the working career moms?
What is a Good Mom?
Each person has a different idea of what a good mom is. However, some things remain the same. They have to do with love, tender care, attention, time spent, and direction in growing up.
These things have nothing to do with whether or not she was home all the time. While working moms and career moms often have a great deal of stuff on their plate, this isn't enough to disqualify them from being a good mom.
On the other hand, a stay at home mom can be neglectful or abusive. They can leave a child to its own will, ignore them and their needs, not love them, or let them grow as they will. Just because a mom is a stay at home mom, isn't enough to quailify her as a good mom.
How You Can Be a Good Mom?
No matter what you job is, whether it is keeping the home, working hard at Burger King, or climbing the ladder at a large corporate company, you can be a good mom. It takes a little work and isn't always easy, but it can be done and it can be done well.
- Love your children. But even more then loving them. Show them that you love them. This includes physical affection, lots of praise, gifts of time, energy, and occasionally financial gifts.
- Spend time with your children. Time is a precious commodity. We often struggle to find enough of it for this and for that. However, it is important that we spend time with our children. Teach them the things that they will need to know, things are parents taught us and things we wish our parents would have taught us.
- Treasure your children. It is easy to get caught up in the hassles of life and the to do list that always seems longer then we can physically accomplish, but it is important to make sure you treasure your children and who they are. Get to know them as they grow and change.
- Support your children. Being there and getting to know your children will let you support them. You want to be there and help them through their decisions and into their future.
All mothers have the potential to be good and even great mothers. It just takes a little commitment. It doesn't matter what she does in addition to mothering, it can still be done great!

Mothering has nothing to do with jobs, other duties, careers, or volunteer work. It has to do with how you treat your children and how you spend time with them. A good mother or a great mother is found in an attitude and not whether or not she is staying home.
To work, or not to work...It is your choice and you and your significant other's choice. You can't let someone else tell you that you are a bad mom (or a good mom) for your choice.

I agree with this entire hub completely. I am a mother of 5 and everyone says I am a really great mom. I don't know, sometimes I feel like I am on the verge of a breakdown and others I feel like it just goes so smooth. I do stay at home with them but I also work at my Online Business, which is a real struggle at times but I do it for them.
You see this way I don't have to pay someone else to raise my children, though that is not the only reason. Truthfully daycare costs so much I would have to pay close to $400 a week just for the 3 little ones and thats not counting food , gas, and wear and tear on the van.Really what kind of job could I get int his small hick town with only a high school diploma that would let me clear more than that, No Where!!!
So I stay home and have found a few really great companies online to work for, even got my own website to let others know about this great way to earn money online. It's the best thing I can do for my family at this time, but I am going back to college in May to become a Registered Nurse. I think that field suits me well as I am a very nurturing person, always wanting to take care of others.
I will still keep my business online of course because after all once I am established I will earn money practically on auto pilot and who couldn't use an extra $3000-$5000+ a month, especially with 5 kids, right!

As for you 'aidenofthetower' keep up the good work, it sounds to me like you are doing all you can to be that great mom you talked about being. God Bless You!
