When looking for Mothers Day Flowers in Denver, like everywhere else, you're spoilt for choice. So here's my guide...

The original Mothers Day Flower was the white carnation. Then because demand overtook supply, florists started to provide red carnations for living Moms and white carnations in honor of Moms who had passed away.

Nowadays, there are so many different bouquets, colors and types of flowers to choose from, it just gets plain confusing. This is what happened to me last year. It was like a scene out of a movie, two cars pulled up right opposite each other & we both jumped out to grab the last bouquet. I won but i felt guilty for the other guy. CARNATIONS - These are by far the most popular flowers and the first given on Mothers Day. They represent purity and innocence. The color of the flower is also important. If your mother is still alive, it's always safe to choose a red carnation. If she is already dead, then you can buy a white carnation in her honor. Pink carnations are a mix between the white and red. They are always a safe bet because the color is soft and pleasing on the eye.

ROSES - Roses have always represented love. It is said that pink roses signify grace and gentility while the white and red roses arranged together means warmth of heart.

TULIPS - Tulips symbolize love.

LILLIES - Lillies, like the carnation, represent purity and sweetness of mothers.

DAISIES - Daisies on Mothering Sunday show that you are reciprocating her love for you

ORCHIDS - Orchids signify love and beauty. Just don't buy black orchids!

Buying Mothers Day Flowers on their own sometimes just isn't enough...

I like to plan my Mother's Day celebration like a military coup. I look at what things would make my Mom happy and what things can go wrong on the big day. Here's a few suggestions.

1. Breakfast in bed. If you live in the same house, wake up early and make breakfast for your Mom. If you live elsewhere (but locally) call around with ready-made breakfast on a tray. Don't forget the flower and newspaper.

2. Buy your Mom's favorite magazine or even better, get her a subscription to her favorite magazine.

3. Smile and compliment your Mom all day. Take the family around with you to see her and recall memories from when you were younger.

4. Get your Mom a beuatiful bouquet of frshly-cut Mother's Day Flowers in Denver.

5. Send a Mother's Day card. Make sure it gets their either on the day (hand delivered) or on the Saturday.

6. Clean your Mom's house.

7. Take her out somewhere special. If it's a restaurant, make sure you book early (i'm talking a month in advance). It doesn't have to be a restaurant, you might choose somewhere like a theatre or gardens. Be creative and think about adventure days out. What would put a smile on her face & make her laugh uncontrollably? but remember Mom's limitations (she's not as young as you).

8. Make a list of all the reasons why you appreciate your Mom, sign it & give it to her as a present along with a photograph of the two of you together. She will treasure this as a keep-sake.
