Mother's Of Teenage's I Hope You Have My Back

I know I am Not Alone
I am the mother of a teenage boy of 19 and a girl of 16. I am about ready to pull my hair out or should I say pull the rest of it out. God you gotta love em but you don't always have to like them now do you?
How Can Such A Little Thing.........
Would you believe that a simple thing as moving cars can ruin the whole wonderful day that you had? Of course it can. Mom simply asks for the car to be moved only to be told "well, can't you move it?"
Let's see, mom having had a yard sale all weekend not to mention that time and effort that goes into the preparation of this event. Where were the little angels? They had more important things to do like playing video games over their friends houses or swimming or shopping for new ear plugs. Point being, they were busy so I guess it's just up to mom now. Ok, I am getting off theĀ subject.
Tired mom get's up in the wee hours of the morning for the ritual putting out of the items for sale, followed by the day on her feet back and forth with the sales and questions, only to be followed by the ritual of the putting back of the items that did not sell. Mom had so much fun doing this she decides to go at it again on Sunday. Funny how the kids come home after all is said and done, possibly followed by "didn't you do any laundry today?"

Monday Morning Blues
Well mom made it through the weekend, is so tired and sore that she can hardly carry herself around to clean up the mess the kids and friends made, take out the trash because it's trash day and in order to have a nice hot shower to sooth her bones she has to fix the hot water heater which had gone out. Parts in hand and a friendly neighbor are mom's best friend this morning as they spend hours replacing the heating unit as no one is educated in the matter and there is much reading involved in the directions written in some foreign language.
"What do you mean there is no hot water?" Poor suffering teens once again. Moving on task at hand complete after many hours in the hot sun, a load of laundry done, dishes done but of course there is the "man, there is nothing to eat around here." Of course mom just spent a chunk of money (from the yard sale) on fresh fruit, sandwich supplies, snacks, juice, etc....but again, mother Hubbard's cupboard seem to be bare.
Oh did I mention sons comment was "why don't you buy some good stuff like Spaghetti O's?"
How Long Do You Think This Will Last?
The Car Moving Finale
Ok, day is done, gone the sun and by the way gone the son as well. Daughter is in her room with a friend. Mother who is done as well is lying in bed at 9:30p.m. resting and relaxing and enjoying how good it feels to do so. Did I mention both teens gave mom grief at the fact that "it's so early" like mom has no reason to be in bed at this hour. Mind you, these are the same teens, of which my son who just came home banging his way in the door at 5a.m. waking mom up for the day, and he was to be the last car in so not being home, he missed all the fun.
Now Youv'e Gone and Done It
Following the "can't you move it" comment. Mom lays around dozing off only to be woken and hour or so later to be reminded that cars need to be moved as people are tired and want to go to bed. Daughter is asked to move cars only to be told "hang on, I'll do it in a minute." Daughter thinks it is brother asking so she has no problem putting him off. The problem is, it's someone else, an adult, tired and ready for bed at 11p.m. asking. Mom is told that he has been put off by daughter and now mom is up and out of bed, interrupted from her wonderful relaxing evening after three days of hard work. Do you think mom is a bit upset? You bet she is!
Mission Complete
And The Heat Is On
Now the yelling begins, the stomping through the house because mom will have to do this herself if she ever expects to get any sleep let alone the others waiting in line for the cars to be moved as they can't sleep until she moves hers so he can move his and so on.......
Well, I guess I don't have to go into details here but mom, the caregiver, chore doer, money maker, meal maker etc....is now crap in daughters book. Mom is going bi-polar according to daughter and mom is now being disrespected verbally because daughter was bothered and interrupted from doing whatever in her room with her friend.
So cars are moved by mom and others, daughter not being one of them, and off to bed goes mom for a wonderful restful slumber. What a beautiful site it is to behold as mom, now sobbing as she is emotionally spent, is forced to realize what selfish, self indulgent children she has raised. Yes, mom knows it is her own fault but she is still believing that of all her giving to her teens that all she has to do is ask and the children would respond "sure mom, no problem."
I Just Can't Seem To Get It Right
Well, only in the movies my friends because that's not how it works in my house. But not to worry because mom, who has gone from the best to the worst over moving cars knows that she will be right back on top as soon as the kids need something from her.
But the question is, will she give it to them?
Wow, mom thinks in hindsight......it was just moving cars, is that not a simple thing, how can all that mess come from such a simple thing? Well, mom tell herself, no worries there is surely more to come.

ha! I have 2 daughters one is 19 and one is 20 soon to be 21. It is a riot. I swear it was easier changing diapers and getting up in the middle of the night than these teenage years. Now I wake up in the middle of the night to see what they are doing or to let them in. They be back in college in a couple of weeks. I love them to death but I cant wait.
