Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in applying for a Master's Degree Programme in ******* starting in autumn 2009. I believe my educational background would enable me to make a strong contribution at the University. I mention that I have graduated in year 2008 *************, from Business Information Technology programme and got a bachelor degree in Business Administration.
My academic performance has been always on top of class. I have been an active member of the IT League Academy for the North Region of Finland where I have been involved in the development of several software projects. Moreover I can say that I would like to continue my studies in order to gain knowledge and experiences by academic research and I believe a Master Degree Programme in Interactive Systems Engineering would offer me the possibility of receiving the complete picture of all aspects of this field.
The reason for choosing this specific Master Programme comes from the fact that in the near future I would like to get to know more things regarding for example Artificial Intelligence studies. I already got some ideas in my head, but unfortunately until now I did not have the right knowledge and the right tools for putting them in practice and that is why I know that this Master Programme would be an excellent starting point for me. Also if I will get selected for this programme I will have the opportunity to learn from the best and the fact that I will study in an international environment will give me the privilege to create new relationships with people from different cultures. I am also aware of the kind of dedication and perseverance I will need to have for achieving the best results in the field and I believe my background will qualify me for such a Master Programme.
Finally I can say that I look forward to join this Master Degree Programme in ********* in order to prove my abilities and gain new skills and I will be patiently waiting for a positive reply.

How did you address the letter?? Before 'Dear Sir or Madam did you write the address and date or did you send the motivation letter by email?

Hey Aaron, sorry for the late response but i had been away for a couple of days. So, before 'Dear Sir or Madam' part i only wrote the name of the university followed by the programme i have applied for .The motivation letter i didn't send by email, but by regular mail and since the address of the university was allready on the envelope there was no point in writing it again.

I am sorry if this letter doesn't help you and that you think it is not academic enough, but i have did my best on my own in composing it. I believe such a letter doesn't show 100% who you are but it has the purpose of making a small image of who you really are. This letter has been send along with a CV, letters of recommendation and last but not lest with the transcript of records.
So if you can do it better, please be my guest and share it with all of us.

Wana let you know that i finally got the results for my master application and i am happy ! Got admitted at Chalmers University,Sweden for the Master Programme called "International Project Managemet", this beeing my first priority.
So i guess you can use this letter(model) because it helped me !

The ideas are good, I have to agree, but you need to rephrase some parts, and make is sound more academic. I'm not trying to be mean, just giving my opinion. In anyway, I wish you best of luck in getting anywhere u've applied ;)

Hi your motivation letter is really good.But univesities ask at about 600 words which is very large so what should i do in addition?
Hello Alex! Fortunately for me, the universities i have applied in Sweden do not require a certain number of words.And i really do not think that anyone is going to stay there and count your words , regarding that time pressure on the admission process it is quite high usually .You could write more about your achievements which are related to the subject if your interest.Me ,i just put a couple of them, since all the important info was in my resume, but you can add more.

Sending you such a letter would be quite impossible. You need to write it by yourself , since you are the only one that knows your achievements.The letter i have posted here should act as a model and it might help you in your actions.

That is a really good choice.One of my friends has been admitted this year to Interaction Design, and i can tell you it is a really good programme.Myself i wanted to apply for that programme but changed my mind in the last minute.

I have a question for you: I am applying for 4 different programs should I send 4 different letter of motivation?
have you sent them to national admission office?
They have told me they will scan my documents and send them all to departments that i have chosen, so if I send 4 different letters, every department see all 4 of them?

Yes, i have sent 4 different copy of the letter.You can just make some small adjustments to each letter in order to fit the programme.
I also have friends who just sent one letter, and it was ok.But since it was not very difficult to do it, i have sent 4 ...i think it's a more personalized way of doing it :)

But on the university's website, where I would like to apply it is not written that they need a letter of motivation.
Is it normal among finnish universities not to write letter of motivation? May be should I write motivation letter when I fill in application form?
It is a little strange not to write motivation letter.

I have applied last year to Helsinki University as well(it was a backup in case i would not be admitted in Sweden).I dont know how is it now, but when i have applied i have just sent my application to the University ,to the department where i was applying.I have also sent sent a motivation letter, because i remember the programme was asking for one.In your case i think you should respect exactly the documents they are asking for, but a motivation letter is not something wrong ...so i guess you could write one.Definitely they will not disqualify you just because you wrote a motivation letter.

Good letter, it will help me translate my nephew's letter! Just a little grammar correction if you're interested...after "if" don't immediately put "will".

You need to send everything to Studera.All in one package .
Thanks a lot for your reply.It means I have to prepare 4 different letter of motivation and thesis proposal for 4 different institutions (mentioning their name on it) and send in one package.Should all the documents be sealed and signed by Public Notary? because Letter of Recommendation is already sealed and signed by our Manager(the Organization in which I am currently working)and also the letter from University is sealed and signed.What to do?.Is High School certificates and 10+2(i.e.Plus Two)certificates required to send for Master's.

Yes...all the documents should be translated to English and legalized at a Public Notary,except for the letter of motivation,of course.
What about the thesis proposal? This is what i dont understand...what are you applying for?Because for master you dont need such a proposal.
