Motorcycle Helmets - Many Different Styles And Kinds
74
Several styles of motorcycle helmets are available and there are ins and outs on all of them. The manufacturers try to make them comfortable to wear while still instilling them with safety standards. When picking out a motorcycle helmet to wear while riding you should analyze how each quality affects you. Maybe the following information will educate you on what helmet you prefer.
A full-face helmet is often seen being used by riders. These helmets live up to their names and protects the whole head and facial area. This is important due to the fact that a lot of injuries occur to the facial area when a motorcycle accident happens in fact 1/3 of the accidents this happens. So the fact that these helmets do facial protection says a lot for them. The downside is that these helmets are heavier making them a bit harder to wear. Riders do say that these helmets being heavier have cause some neck problems and injuries. Nothing out there backs up this idea though. Half helmets are yet another style of helmet. These helmets are legal in the U.S. but not very good. The half helmet looks a lot like an open face helmet and is bowlike in shape and does not offer much in the way of protection of the base of the skull or the back side of the neck. Huge problem with these helmets is no face coverage for safety. Because of the round shape of the helmet is tends to slip on the head. If you want your face more exposed try the open face helmet, which has most of the safety of the full-face but leaves off the visor and chin guard that protects the face. Some riders like this because they can see better but they are giving up having their face kept safe. These helmets do not always have the accessory of a visor with it but may have the helmet in such a way that the rider can add one. One helmet that is extremely in today is the flip up or flip face helmet. This popular helmet has the same safety as the full-face helmet does. I fully protects the face, head and the chin. This helmet is really unlike the full-face in that the face and chin guard flip up or lift up. If the riders nose itches he can scratch it without having to take the whole helmet off. Motorcross helmets are almost twins to the full-face helmet. There is one exception to their likeness the motocross helmet chin and visor have been widen. Also the visor is shaped in such a way as to allow for the rider to use goggles. There is added protection being offered in this helmet with the added width of the chin guard because the motocross rider often mash their faces when the fall and they fall several times during their time in motocross. The one helmet that is deceiving is the beanie helmets which are motorcycle helmets that are copied to look like a legal helmet but do not hove the safety rating of one. They are used to fool law enforcement into thinking the rider is using the right kind of helmet. Riders that want to avoid tickets but hate the weight of the other legal helmets wear these. No way should a rider endanger themselves with less protection of this helmet. Shop for a while before choosing your helmet. Are you totally baffled about what helmet to use? Study the way you use your motorcycle and the location that you go to ride this may help give you a clue to what type of motorcycle helmets to buy. Please never go riding without your protective helmet. You would not want to be hurt.- Motorcycle Helmets

I thought that a helmet was a helmet, I understood that one that covered more of your head of course would be safer. I just didn't know that there were certain things to look for when buying a helmet; I own a half helmet and thought that this would be sufficient because I don't like the feeling of my whole face being covered but I didn't realize that my neck could be safer in a full face helmet if an accident occurred.
Great information on helmets and the opitions and styles. Helmets are not only a law in California for riding a motorcycle but also for riding a bike or scooter. With so many styles and colors and variations choosing a helmet for your personal need is easy. The flip up face shield is great. You can get the freedom of feeling the wind in your face while still having the head protected.
Thanks you for this information. I have been searching for the right helmet for a little while now. The full face helmets always feel so confined and feel like it's hard to breath in them. I think I will take the advice and really shop around the the right "fit".

Wearing a helmet while riding is a no-brainer. The flip face helmets are nice because it gives you the full face and eye protection, but like you said- you can still scratch an itch without taking the whole thing off.
