Motorcycles - Why Motorcycles Are Great Vehicles

Everyone knows that motorcycles aren't always the safest mode of transportation. Many car drivers are not respectful of how little protection a motorcycle rider has. Car drivers are not as alert as they should to other cars let alone cycles! Drivers of all things motorized need to look out for the other drivers. Also the motorcyclists need to have their helmet on and their lights on when they are riding.

Safety for you is vital. You achieve this by making sure all areas of your body are protected by with clothing (called leathers), boots, and gloves and last but not least a helmet. The clothing is called leathers because for years they have been made out of leather. There are other things they are made from these days such as Kevlar though. These leathers along with the other gear will keep you from getting so scraped up in a fall.

With both cars and cycles people purchase in part according to looks. Some of large cars do not have the same visual eye candy as the small sexy styles of sports cars. You have to think about what make model and even color suits your personality when trying to choose a car to purchase. Cycle are the same way when it comes to visual eye candy with one added thing to consider here and that is your full body is loud to show when operating a cycle.

Motorcycles are created to show the riders entire body to the rest of the people around. A rider can look mighty snazzy in their leathers especially if they are new and shiny. It is not only the women admiring the male riders it is also the other way around too. The men do notice the women that are riding.

Sometimes cars can smell funny for various reasons and they use a whole lot of gas too. With the way the gas prices are crunching our budgets we need to take a closer look at how to conserve gas. Cars just drink down gas like we drink water compared to the gas that cycles use.

With cycles they are lighter in weight than cars therefore it takes less effort for the engine. This helps the cycle be more fuel-efficient. With small fuel tanks it takes a few more fill ups than with a car but the gas lasts longer and the cycles get much better gas mileage than most cars do. The weight of the rider with their gear makes little difference when it comes to a cycle's gas mileage.

The final point to be made in this discussion is that of price. Have you seen the prices on cars lately? Ouch they are high! If you try to buy an old used one at a good price of a few hundred dollars then you usually have to do more work on it to get it drivable which makes it more expensive. If you have to replace a transmission in a car the price is such that you can buy a cycle for the same price. The newer cars even the completely new ones need work done from time to time. From emission checks to brakes it takes money. It is also alarming to think that the new cars drop 1/3 in their worth when they first leave the lot! So go out and buy a cycle and all the accessories that you need and you still come out better than the cost of the cars today.

So when you think of everything together the cycle comes out on top price wise compared to an automobile. Used motorcycles can be bought at the bargain price of $300 if you catch a deal. You may need to work on it a bit but it will still be cheaper than a used car. Your wallet will love the difference in gas mileage too.

Motorcycles are definately an alternative to a gas guzzling car or SUV. It is really important though for the rider to be aware of his surroundings (while saving the moolah) and WEAR A HELMET!

Hey Tommy,

I've been riding since I was about sixteen and I'm fifty-eight now. Love the bikes. I survivied a few crashes and have seen a lot of stupid stuff on the road, but always keep coming back. I even totalled a helmet. Boy am I glad I had that on! I just posted a hub page about a classic Norton Commando I restored...something you might appreciate. http://www.tinyurl.com/a9drzj
