My, my, my...where do I start with this film. Ok--simply, it is a love story. Not quite in the traditional 'Hollywood' aspect of a love story. This film, is bolder---fierce! It is about the adversities of love and human acceptance. No, it is greater than that--it is a romance that will capture your emotions---then spread it out over the vastness of the sky!

Jong-du is what society may consider a social reject. He's frigidity, has inappropriate mannerisms and at times, well most of the time a plan goofball! At the start of the film, he was just released from prison for serving time for manslaughter (not his fault, mind you--his brother is guilty of manslaughter--Jong-du just took the fall for him). He bumbles about the street trying to find a way to contact his family to let them know that he was released. He goes to the apartment to where his family had lived, to only find that they had moved. It was an ill attempt to 'abandon' him--to no avail, because he winds up back in police custody after trying to stiff on a meal--by leaving his shoes as payment. The police get in contact with his family--and so this true tale begins.

Jong-du is by far not the most 'romantic' man by the looks of him--but beneath that awkward exterior, lies the heart of a true hero of sorts. One with whom you are quickly rooting for in the end! Wait, this is a romance story, is it? Let me introduce you to his love interest--Gong-ju. She, well--she too, is a social isolate---she has cerebral palsy. Jong-du is drawn to where she live to offer penance to the family, whom he had caused a great misfortune years earlier--only to be intrigued with Gong-ju. As one event leads to another they conquer what most of us take for granted under our normal less complicated circumstances--they fall in love.

Their new found togetherness is challenged by society as Jong-du takes Gong-ju out of her apartment and to the streets of Korea to enjoy the world as he sees it. But there is one problem--both families reject their relationship. Shunned individually by society--ostracized by their own families--how can a love affair prevail?

Let me warn you--this is an emotionally stimulating movie--so grab the Kleenex--turn off the phone, cell phones. Watch this movie in quiet. Immerse yourself in a tale of the adversities of love--and how love can conquer all.
