Small Time Folk
Looks like Small Time Folk may be coming to a theatre near you. This crazy little uk film has generated quite a buzz at film festivals, and in Hollywood.
This is a horror comedy fantasy centered around an old house on a countryside hill, with a rather deranged man called Landlord running the place, all while his goons hide in the country's brush woods just waiting to pounce on anyone who gets close enough to the area.
And you know how the story goes in each horror film. Someone is bound to make that mistake.
Three young people wander a little to close to the home. So Landlord decides to take a girl for himself, in order to keep the deranged, murderous bloodline alive, and throw the rest to the wolves stalking the ground.
The group has wandered onto the beautiful hillside but will they be able to get off with a blood thirsty family lurking within the country side.
The concept is very "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" meets "O Brother Where Art Thou" meets the "Jerry Springer Show" (check out the trailer).
I was surprised to find out that the whole film was not only shot on mini-dv, but that it used a green-screen as well to get those vibrant colors. Even though they had only a few thousand dollars to shoot it with they proved tall it takes is a little talent... oh and the Internet to generate buzz.
Nearly all of the film was shot this way.
What a refreshing surprise from an independent film. This type of thing is very difficult to get right. You have to ware the right color cloths, and be careful of shadows.
Normally this is not my cup of tea in horror but the trailer I left for you to view is just plain hilarious to me, and yeah I think this will get slapped with an "R" rating for sure, but you know what this is just one of those films you either get is a joke ( or you get the joke), his having fun making fun of itself, or you don't.
Love'em or hate'em I do smell sequel money coming their way, 2008 is probably gonna be their year.
