Borat's Weirdly Inappropriate Costume Matches His Dialogue and Gross Actions in the Movie

Yes, You Should See This Movie

I am a conservative fifty-nine year retired white male -- probably not the intended market audience for the Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan movie, and two of my children told me I wouldn't like it. But, I had heard that it was different, part slightly documentary, and so inappropriately funny. So, by myself I went to the movies to see this. This evening, four other people decided also to see this movie in Arroyo Grande. We all laughed. If you are in high school, college, (or a recent dropout), you have a good chance of seeing Borat. If you are older, as I am, should you see it, too? Well, yes! It was funny, and, yes, shockingly so, and I didn't look at my watch once.

Does Borat Make a Cultural Statement About The U.S.?

Oh, I suppose much will be written about Borat's trip across the United States that exposes racism, anti-semitism, homophobia. . . probably more so in the U. S. than in other countries. And, as an American, I winced many times. This movie was not fully scripted; many participants were truly reacting to Cohen's character, and in fact, claiming that they were misled, they are now suing Sacha Baron Cohen and 20th Century Fox. Yes, I know there are people like that living here (and I am uncomfortable when I reminded of that). The people who were kindest to Borat, the Jewish couple (Borat hates Jews) with the bed and breakfast, caused no change in Borat. Plot-wise (okay, if you have seen the movie, you may be thinking, what plot?) the writers missed an opportunity. The Jewish people aside, there is much meanness in Borat, perhaps made less glaring because of the gross humor. Incidentally, the black prostitute character is an actress.

I am writing this the day after I saw the movie, and I am still thinking of the movie. The fact that a movie will remain in my mind until the next day is one of my criteria for the movie being good.

I had my doubts about seeing this movie. All my peers have said they loved it. I was skeptical, but reading this review from you, I want to go and see this movie now.

Go see it as soon as possible. Would you like me to come to SF and take care of the girls, and you all can go to the movies?

I like seeing someone who is not the intended audience for a movie admit that and still see the quality in it. Personally, I'm a recent college graduate and I loved this movie. It didn't live up to the Borat bits from the show Da Ali G Show, mostly because an hour and a half straight of Borat can get old, but it was still a daringly original and hilarious movie. Thanks for the review.

I was not an intended audience for this movie either, but I watched it - 1).because my son was watching it at home on DVD, 2)-because I was born in Kazakhstan and was curious, 3)-my cousin who still lives in Kazakhstan was outraged by the movie and I've heard that this movie was banned in Kazakhstan. I am very glad I watched the movie. I laughed. I liked it. I'll watch it again.

The movie is not just funny, or hillarious, or entertaining. It is clever, it is very clever.

Borat's fear of Jews is a clever satire showing how average people are brain-washed by mass-media showing Israel and Jews as aggressors and terrorists.

The ugly (on the first sight) scene of Borat and Azamat wrestling naked- is a resemblance of WWF shows, which were very popular.

Borat shows people as they are. Without hypocrisy.
