Moving Out of the Alley - A Vignette on Taking a Leap of Faith
67She sat up in bed trying to decide whether she should read a book so she could lose herself in someone else's imagination or if she should write so she could somehow draw someone else into her reality. Either way she ended up in the same mental alley.
Do you know the place? The alley that lies between the buildings of truth and faith. The building where truth lived told her just how things were - the facts only. In the building where truth lived she learned that in order to cope with struggles and fear she needed to reside here so that disillusionment wouldn't find her. Truth would protect her. Here she could be certain about the way things were. This building was solid, but lackluster. It was immovable, but not very moving, well not in the adventurous sort of way.
The building where faith lived told her there was always hope - that faith overcame facts and that walking in faith was the step closer to the ultimate truth. The building where faith lived was a place where dreams could grow and become reality. It told her about a Saviour who is truth and if she lived here in the house of faith long enough she would see personal transformation. The building of faith was beautifully decorated and offered an atmosphere of warmth - the kind that took the chill off of the stark realities. It was an exciting place, open to dreams, and always hanging on the edge.
Truth was important and a firm foundation was needed, but challenge was what brought growth and even though she knew that she did not have to abandon truth in order to live in the house of faith, she was afraid to move. Little did she know that inside of the house of faith she would find truth, and that inside the house of truth she she would rest in faith. All she had to do was to walk with Jesus who would lead her into truth and cause her faith to grow and be exciting and vitally alive. Entering into the house of faith would bring her to the truth of Christ. She didn't know that both buildings would were safe as along as she walked with the Lord. So, she stood alone, trying to figure out which way to go. It was too hard to decide so she stayed in the alley in between.
Luke 11:9-10
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
If we are seeking the Lord, we need not fear. We knock, and know he will answer. We can trust him to lead us in truth and have faith that He will show us the way - that when we ask, seek and knock - we will find. We don't need to be stuck in the alley in between. He is the truth and by grace, through faith we are saved. In Christ, truth and faith are not exclusive. In Christ, we have a firm foundation and a glorious adventure that will keep us on the edge. And in Him we find a warmth that eases the chilling realities of life.

What a great hub, clear and comforting. I love the passage from Luke.
Christ came to die for everyone, to be the savior of all people.
Fran, don't we all get stuck in that alley sonetimes. I know I do -that is what enables me to write about it. Never thought about the rooftop -that sounds like an exciting place to contemplate.
Internpete, Thanks for taking time to read and to comment. Indeed christ came to redeem us all - and I am overwhelmed to think that I am included in the "all" Too often it is easy to think about how he blesses others and ignore the idea that he wants to bless me too - Oh what a Savior!

Carol,
This is me you write about, stuck in the alley at times. You hit upon two major visuals Jesus at the Door and the song Leap of Faith. Very powerful.
Think I'll sit up on the roof top and contemplate the buildings below!
