Mr President the microphone is still on

Television is a wonderful media for politicians to spread their message to the masses they can be interviewed, give speeches and send out as much spin as their hearts desire, when all goes well, they gain a few points in the opinion polls and a little voter respect, but sometimes the little gremlins take over just to throw a spanner in the works, after some great speeches and great political decisions all of the good work can be spoiled and has been spoiled because Someone forgot to switch the microphone off.

President Bush gave Tony Blair a lesson in "Gangsta Rap" last year at the G8 summit after their interviews he was overheard talking to Blair,

Bush: Yo Blair, How are you doing

Blair: I'm just....

Bush: Your Leaving?

Blair: No, no, no not yet.

Bush: Yeah, I told that to the man.

One of the most famous microphone moments was in 1984, during what he thought was a sound check President of the day Ronald Reagan came a cropper when he broadcasted his joke to the world "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

Ex Conservative Prime minister John Major after an interview didn't realise that the tape was still running when he was heard to say "B***ards, I will crucify them" referring to his cabinet members.

Jacques Chirac didn't realise he was being recorded in a chat with Russian president Putin and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder when he said of the British, "The only thing they have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow disease".

---joke I heard recently---

Two cows in a field, one turns to the other and says, "Are you worried about this mad cow disease? I heard a cow in the field over the road caught it last week, to this the other cow replies,"Why on earth would I be worried, I'm a CHICKEN !!!!!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course it isn't only Politicians who fall foul of the microphone curse, Prince Charles made a right royal fool of himself in 2005 at a press conference after he replied to a question about his upcoming wedding to Camilla by reporter Nicholas Witchell, he was heard muttering to Prince William " Bloody People, I can't bear that man, he is so awful, he really is.

Kyra Phillips the CNN reporter goofed on the anniversary of hurricane Katrina by forgetting to turn of her microphone and she was heard over President bush's speech gossiping in the toilets with her friend, "Brothers have to be protective. Except for mine, I've got to be protective of him.... his wife is a control freak."

Good Hub Jimmy!! Wasn't one of President Bush's biggest "microphone still on" mistakes shortly after the first election?? If I remember correctly he was about to address a Danish audience but a few minutes before he began he muttered something like, "I can't believe I won, I didn't get the votes, yet now I'm going to be President??" Blessings, Earth Angel!!

Great collection!

I once had to do a bunch of researach on the 1930s, and was amazed to learn that in FDR's day, the press wasn't even allowed to quote the Pres during press conferences! Those were informal gatherings, and anything FDR said was off the record. It would simply be too rude to write down his words!

Wouldn't it be nice if politicians, or celebrities, simply said what they really think in the first place? Not likely!
