As a vacuum repair technician, I attempt to repair the poor, neglected and abused vacuum cleaners that I come across. I have seen every vacuum type conceivable, and am always amazed at the torture they are put through. For sure, most non-functioning vacuums arrive on my workbench, long before they should.

Being a vacuum repairperson, I get all sorts of questions about vacuum cleaners. Questions like “What is a Filter?” or “My vacuum bag was full, so I just took it out and used it for a couple of weeks anyway. Is that O.K.?” In all of my years, I probably have been asked every vacuum related question imaginable. However, there is one question that I am asked more than any other is ironically a question that I cannot answer with any authority. That question is, “What is the best vacuum?”

Answering this question involves so many variables, that no one can possibly answer it for someone else. However when I reply, “I don’t know. It depends”, the stares of confusion and unbelief are telling, and their reply just as obvious. “What do you mean you don’t know? You work on vacuums all day long”. The reason for their confusion is also the very reason I cannot answer their question. Deciding upon the best vacuum is very subjective, and it does “just depend”.

All I can say is that choosing the best vacuum should involve choosing the best vacuum for a particular environment or choosing the best vacuum for your budget. Funny enough, some people do not seem to understand this principle; so I will try to elaborate.

There are hundreds of manufacturers that produce thousands of different model vacuum cleaning machines. Now, out of those hundreds of manufacturers, how many do you suspect will tell you that their vacuum cleaner IS NOT the best vacuum for you or your home? Not so many would be my guess. Therefore, we probably cannot take the manufacturers word for it, when they claim they produce the best vacuum cleaner.

Then there are the companies and stores that sell vacuum cleaners. Don’t you think they have a very good reason that saying that their machines are the best vacuum cleaners? Sure they do. They could not very well unload many second best vacuum cleaners, could they?

So who is telling the truth? Well, the answer is they all are, AND they all are not. Depending upon the user and environment, then any vacuum cleaner could be considered the best vacuum, FOR that person and environment.

For example, if my small office carpet has a very short nap (thread length), I can choose virtually any available vacuum and it will suffice. If I choose the cheapest vacuum available, it will still perform well. Therefore, in this type a situation, the BEST vacuum is the vacuum that does the job and saves me the most money. Remember the best tool for a job does not necessarily have to be the most expensive. If used properly, even a inexpensive vacuum cleaner can provide years of reliable service.

Not even the vacuum technician can tell you the best vacuum for your needs, but at Vacuum Cleaner Select we offer consumer vacuum reviews that help you to select the best vacuum for your use.
