A muhajababe is an Islamic woman who chooses to wear a veil or headscarf in conformity with Islamic law but still retaining a fashionable appearance.

This slang term is used in a variety of Muslim localities, and it is also heard in many parts of the world with a large numbers of Muslim citizenry. A muhajababe can dress every bit as attractively as her non-Muslima counterparts, or the Muslim woman may simply wear a veil in a sexy manner. For those Muslimas who live in non-religious or 'secular' societies, dressing fashionably while also comporting the veil can be a tactic to meet society halfway, while staying fashionable and dressing appropriately for their religious values simultaneously.

Muslimas may wear the scarf or veil to both express their religious beliefs and because they believe that they are instructed to do so by the Qu'ran. The Islamic dress-code is known as hijab, a term which is also used to denote specifically the headscarfs worn by Muslimas.

Nowadays, young Muslim girls feel that while the instructions of hijab should be observed, it is appropriate to dress fashionably and even perhaps to to hint at the body which lies attractively hidden beneath the headscarf.

The term muhajabe is used to connote a woman who wears the veil and observes the commands of hijab. “Muhajababe,” is simply a generic use of this term.

Muhajababes are to be found in designer garments, stylish shoes, graceful dresses, and a whole range of other clothing.

The rise of the muhajababe has helped to eliminate some mistaken ideas about the stictures of Islam and the rules of hijab. Indeed, while some women certainly do prefer the complete covering of most body parts as hijab instructs, it is nevertheless possible to be sexy while still conforming with Muslim values. Some Muslim Iranians and Lebanese are quite clever at pushing the envelope when it comes to hijab, as can be seen in the entertainment world in particular.
